County issues 46 building permits since Oct 4

Severe cold and drifting snow hit Grundy County area

Bitter winds push wind chill to 44 below zero in Grundy County as drifting snow closes schools and hampers travel. Cold snap after storm with frigid forecasts

The forecast calls for a clear but cold night with temperatures from 5 below to 15 below zero. Wednesday will be partly cloudy and cold with highs in the mid to upper teens. Monday’s high reached 35 at Dresden Island Locks and Dam and the low was 4. At 7 am it was 4 degrees and Morris logged 1 degree at 10:15 am. Precipitation measured 17 units, equating to about two and a half inches of snow.

HUD approves O Connor project for 105 unit senior apartments

Mayor Donald Davidson received a HUD letter approving Jerome P O Connor’s 105 unit low income senior housing in Morris, to be built between Bedford Road and Waverly Street east of Lisbon Road. The six story complex will charge $315 monthly plus $9 utilities, with eligibility and residency questions under review.

Trucker Injured in Kendall Three Car Crash

A three vehicle collision on Illinois 47 about 2.5 miles south of Yorkville left truck driver Joseph L. Stoklasa in serious condition at Copley Memorial Hospital Aurora. Albert Koselman refused transfer for emergency service and Robinson fled the scene.

Dwight escapees nabbed in trailer

Two Chicago women, Kathy King and Patricia Parker, both armed robbery convicts, escaped Dwight Correctional Center at 8 p.m. Monday by overpowering guard Florence Ryan with a steam iron. They were found in a trailer near Dwight at 4:30 a.m. and detained awaiting charges after a snowbound search aided by snowmobiles.

Channahon Board Reviews Annexation Ordinance

Channahon Village Board continued discussion on an annexation ordinance during a Monday meeting. The ambulance fund received a $1,000 donation. The suit from Channahon Grade School Board against the developer was dismissed after Rolling Acres Subdivision paid more than $8,800 to Minooka High School and over $24,000 to the Channahon Grade School. President Stephen Ritter noted the suit arose from a dispute over the annexation agreement allowing land or cash donations. Interviews for the new police chief are set for Dec. 14 with about 14 applications received.
