A pickle cannery at Grand Ridge and Kinsman Roads suffered heavy damage from a 1:17 p.m. Sunday fire. Owner William Roe reported the 2,700 square foot building had extensive roof destruction and damaged pickles. Fire departments from Verona, Seneca and Maron fought the blaze about an hour. the cause was not known.

The Alyeska Pipeline Service Co reports less than half a mile of pipe remains to complete the 800 mile Alaska pipeline from Arctic North Slope to Valdez ice free port. About 295 feet must be backfilled at Thompson Pass and 1,400 feet laid 140 miles south of Prudhoe Bay. Work force diminishing with under 12,000 in mid November and several camps closed.

A Minooka woman Mary Wendell 27 was injured in a two vehicle crash on Interstate 55 at U S 52 early Saturday. Donald Augustine 24 Alsip rear ended her car and was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions. Wendell was treated and released from St Joseph Hospital Joliet. Wendell’s 1971 Chevrolet Impala had 1000 damage and Augustine’s 1969 Chevrolet Nova had 1200 damage and was towed.
