Lisbon Plans Big Labor Day Bicentennial Parade
Lisbon marks Labor Day and the bicentennial with an all day event led by the Lisbon Seward Fire Protection District. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. with a parade from Lisbon Grade School, a 70 member Bicentennial Community Choir concert, a pork chop barbecue, charity softball and horseshoe tournaments, water fights, skydivers, and prizes, as the fire department orchestrates the celebration in Lisbon.

The forecast calls for tonight to be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the extreme north with a low around 48. Wednesday remains mostly cloudy with possible thunderstorms and a high between 62 and 72. Monday recorded a high of 82 at Dresden Island Locks and Dam with a low of 43, while morning readings show 55 at 7 am and 80 at 10:30 am in Morris. Stolen Checks Found in Van During Traffic Stop
Grundy County deputies investigated after three open beer cans and a stolen checkbook belonging to Ronald and Patricia Jones of Aurora were found in a van driven by David Nash. Nash faced improper parking and illegal liquor transport charges. checkbook reported stolen June 24. Passengers not charged. van towed to Grundy County Jail.

Morris Public Library considers listening areas and card policy
At the Morris Public Library Board meeting Miss Pamela Wilson announced a October book sale in the multipurpose room. Macdonald proposed turning part of the main library into three or four listening rooms for budgeting. The board approved contacting Commonwealth Edison within 30 days about power options. Wilson may issue a library card under the Illinois Valley Workshop director, with the director responsible for borrowed books. New phones were installed at 942 6880 and microfilm of the Morris Daily Herald is now complete. A children story hour with Old MacDonald begins next week. a November photographer's exhibit will be shown. In attendance were Macdonald Maunder Mrs. Allen Carson Robinson and Atty. Hynds. Absent were Schaefer Johnson Lyon Avalos.

Stolen car destroyed by fire near Reed Road
A white 1974 Mercury stolen from Chicago on August 16 was found burning in a corn field off Reed Road near Coal City. Deputy Thomas Walker said an open gas can sat in the front seat and the spare tire was missing. The value was placed at $4,000 and Coal City police assisted.

Meat spills after semi wreck on I-80 in Princeton
A semi trailer carrying fresh meat veered off I-80 in Princeton Illinois, struck a guard rail, and spilled cold cuts along the road. Two following cars also collided with the trailer. Eastbound lanes were closed for about an hour starting at 4:45 a.m. for cleanup.

Residents of Greenfield Township filed in Grundy County Circuit Court for forming a South Wilmington Fire Protection District.
