The Morris Community High School Board votes to issue 320000 in life safety bonds for repairs, paid over four years, saving interest vs a 14 year plan. The board also approves lunch price increases and hires three teachers to complete the MCHS staff for 1973 74.

ICC Continues Rail Hearing on Rock Island Crossing Closure

The Illinois Commerce Commission extends the hearing on permanently closing the Rock Island Brisbin Road crossing in Saratoga Township to Oct 24 at 10 a.m. in Chicago. The panel will also consider automatic flashing light signals and gates at Bungalow Gun Club and Ashley roads crossings.

Voyageurs to Reenact Marquette Jolliet Voyage in Morris

An expedition retracing 1673 explorers Marquette and Jolliet will arrive at Stratton State Park Morris at 1 p.m. August 30. Seven men, joined by a 13 year old boy, will portray the original explorers in 1673 era dress. The journey from St. Ignace began May 17, covering 3 000 miles with French language practice and paddling songs. No Morris landing celebration is planned.

EPA act applies to junked cars in Grundy County

Grundy County Regional Planning Commission agreed to enforce the 1971 Environmental Protection Act to address junked car issues. Assistant State's Atty. John Hanson said the act already covers the area of any proposed ordinance, making new rules redundant. The panel also discussed corridor studies for Illinois 47 and a citizens advisory board to involve residents, along with county plan revisions and a budget increase to 3500.

Burglar Breaks into Mazon Verona Kinsman High School

The Mazon Verona Kinsman High School was burglarized with a window and screen broken on the northwest side. Blood stains appeared on the window and 17 rooms were entered. A portable radio worth 89 dollars and several shop tools were taken but later found. a boiler room flashlight was found outside the broken window.

Woman's body identified in Park Forest forest preserve

Police identified 42 year old Terry Kokores of Park Forest South as the woman found in a Cook County forest preserve. Her companion Aurelio Rios 23 of Monee said they were robbed by two men after leaving a bar and that she was abducted. Rios was wounded in the back while fleeing.

Special meeting on bids for school athletic field work

Members of Coal City Community Unit District No. 1 will meet in special session at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the high school to consider bids for earthwork on the athletic field and to discuss advertising for bids on tile work and curbing. The agenda includes approving payment to D. Koerner for completed work and personnel employment. President Frank J. Anselmo presided.

Morris library to host six week preschool story hours

Miss Carol Wilken, Morris new children's librarian, announces a six week series of preschool story hours on Tuesday mornings starting Sept 18. Each session runs 10 to 10 30 a.m. in the library basement with 3 and 4 year olds. Parents may register at the library and a second 11 a.m. session will open if demand is high.

Stolen 26 Inch Schwinn Bicycle From Hornsbys Center

Cindy Morrall 17 of 419 Maple Dr reports a 26 inch blue Schwinn bicycle stolen Wednesday morning from Hornsby’s Family Center. Police Sgt. Jack Kopzick filed the report and notes the incident occurred around 5 p.m.
