Air Force training flights will be trimmed by 300,000 hours. Army non Southeast Asia operations cut by about $500 million. Civilian layoffs exceed 50,000 as bases may close.

Six men left for induction in the armed forces from the Morris Post Office this morning. They are Donald E. Matteson, Matthew T. Higgins, Daniel C. Elgar, Michael A. Pellouchoud, John R. Smolik, and Richard D. Siders. Seventeen more were sent for physical examinations in Grundy County on September 19.

Los Angeles AP John Wayne sues a building materials firm for 72000 in damages to his 136 foot yacht Wild Goose and 36250 for breach of contract He chartered the yacht to Interpace Corp from May 15 to May 28, the vessel ran aground May 19 in San Diego harbor and was not returned to Newport Beach until July 19.
A 17 year old Braidwood boy Raymond Delmas tro in serious condition at St. Joseph Hospital Joliet after a head on crash on Illinois 129 one half mile north of Illinois 113 at 2 40 pm Wednesday. Roy Holm 16 of Braidwood and Calvin Flint 17 also hospitalized with minor injuries. Hall 30 Joliet driver and Holm’s passenger were treated and released. Holm cited for unsafe driving after losing control hitting Hall’s pickup head on.
Public Works Director William F. Celini announced a second setting for bids to build two Interstate 80 rest area buildings. One site is in Grundy County near Minooka and the other in Bureau County. Sept 12 bids cover plumbing heating piping refrigeration ventilation electrical work pipe insulation and coverings. A joint planning consultant services meeting is set for Sept 10 at 7 30 p m in City Hall Morris.
The United States expelled a Cuban diplomat from the United Nations amid allegations he tried to recruit a Cuban refugee for a mission tied to protecting the presidency. State Department officials declined to detail whether the plot targeted President Nixon or involved an assassination attempt.
