The Morris Elementary School District 54 faces a 1966 67 budget rise of 45179 with expenditures climbing to 620358 and a tax levy up four cents per 100 assessed value to 1.3230. The hearing is scheduled for September 14 at Franklin School.

Mrs Grace Small 52 of Gilman was killed when the car she rode in collided with a pickup on Illinois 47 about 10 miles southwest of Aurora.

Famous Band To Appear At Grundy Corn Festival

Chicago Fire Department Band with 120 members will perform at 3 p.m. Sept. 25 in the Morris parade. Don Barkley says Morris volunteers arranged the appearance with Fire Chief Earl Johnson and Assistant Chief Pete Muffler. Grain and Flower Show also planned in the old Illinois Bell building.

First Day Driver Damages Property In Illinois Crash

Clarence Kinkin Jr. 17 and passenger Gary Barthy 17 escaped with minor injuries after Kinkin lost control on Illinois 113 near Diamond Grundy County. He struck a curb, damaged a Rambler, knocked down two evergreen trees two gas pumps two flood lights and a billboard then landed in a ditch. Kinkin cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Morris MCHS Band to Perform Free Outdoor Concert

The Morris Community High School Band will give a free outdoor concert at 7 p.m. Friday on the courthouse lawn. About 50 members, directed by Dale Wise, will play marches overtures patriotic tunes and music from Sound of Music as the Morris Hospital Aid Society sponsors a nearby benefit lawn social.

Morris Elementary District 54 will bar first and fifth graders from opening day without state mandated physical examinations. The board approved the rule with exceptions for appointments not yet available and required proof of pending appointments.

Tragic three car crash claims Morris teen

Steven H. Bottcher 17 of Wauponsee Township died at Morris Hospital after a three car collision on Illinois 47 near the 115 junction. Miss Shirlee Thorson 19 and others were treated for injuries. Bottcher was a Morris Community High School senior active in track football 4 H and scouting. Funeral services set at Morris Methodist Church.

Archbishop Cody Hurt Wednesday Car Collision Near Elgin

Archbishop John P. Cody of the Chicago Archdiocese was injured in a Wednesday automobile crash east of Elgin. He suffered facial injuries requiring stitches but was not hospitalized, according to a chancery statement.

Fair and cool tonight with mid 50s low

The U S Weather Bureau reports fair and cool conditions tonight with a low in the mid 50s. Friday will be mostly sunny and warmer with a high in the mid to upper 70s. Saturday looks partly cloudy with a chance of showers and a bit warmer. The Collins Weather Station logged a high of 68 and a low of 52 on Wednesday with 0.36 inches of rain.

Illinois State Fair Schedule Promises Busy Opening Day

The Illinois State Fair opens with a full Friday lineup in Springfield. Livestock judging begins at 8 a.m. in multiple pavilions while events include a national championship horse show at 8:30 a.m. and a 1 p.m. official opening at the main gate. The day features a Cavalcade of music at 8 p.m. headlined by the Beach Boys and Sam the Pharoahs.
