The Morris Planning Commission recommended reclassifying a 456 by 120 foot lot from R II to R I for a Joliet realty office west of Illinois 47, with a requirement the zone revert if a variance is not granted. The 4 0 vote followed a public hearing at the First National Bank of Morris.

Red Cross Bloodmobile Seeks 115 Pints In Morris Visit

The Morris Red Cross bloodmobile aims for 115 pints next Monday at W F W Hall 11 30 a m to 5 30 p m with about 125 donors needed to meet quota after exclusions for low hemoglobin weight or medication. Elderly Cairo man held after shooting during argument

In Cairo Illinois police arrested 92 year old James Lee Candey after he shot Edith Lewis 41 in the leg with a sawed off shotgun during an argument at Candeys apartment house. He faces charges of illegal use of a weapon and aggravated battery.

The Senate Watergate committee recessed until after Labor Day. So far hearings span 37 days of questioning with 35 witnesses appearing and more than 7,500 pages of testimony typed double spaced.

Farmer survives field mishap as tractor burns

Ronald Peddicord, 38, of Marseilles, escaped serious injury when his International B Tractor tipped over on Morey Road north of Walker's Corner. The tractor caught fire, was destroyed, and Peddicord was treated at Morris Hospital after being freed from the seat with help from bystanders.

Grady County Zoning Board Hears Car Sales and Deere Plans

The Grundy County Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved amendments to the county zoning ordinance at a public hearing. Ronald Kaiser seeks A to B II rezone for 4.43 acres near Illinois 47 to build an automobile sales lot, starting with used cars then new. Richard L. Walker seeks 5 acres in Saratoga Township for a John Deere farm implement sales business. The panel also approved amendments increasing lot dimensions and adding road frontage rules, with no opposition, and continued a separate hearing for Bower Homes of Joliet in Wauponsee Township.

Chicago man drowns at Illinois River near Dresden Lock

Richard Speciale, 24, of Chicago, drowned while swimming in the Illinois River near the Dresden Lock and Dam early today. Friends from Chicago notified dam operators. rescue squads arrived as the body was recovered at 8:40 a.m. by Morris Fire Department after a search coordinated by Grundy County authorities.

Agnew Schedules News Conference Amid Kickback Probe

Davidson files for Morris mayor nomination in special election

Donald Davidson Sr. filed as the first Republican candidate for Morris' special mayoral primary. By 10:30 a.m. he was the only aspirant. former mayor John Hendrickson and acting mayor Robert Gilbertson have taken out petitions. Filing ends August 18. primary October 16. Absentee ballots open September 1 for the primary and October 19 for the December election.

Three injured in Illinois 47 collision near I 55

Mrs Judy Lewis 24 of Aurora and her daughters Tonya 5 and Sonya 3 were treated and released at Morris Hospital after their car collided with a tractor and sprayer on Illinois 47 three miles north of Interstate 55. William E. Henry 50 of Aurora drove south and struck the sprayer when Douglas E. Brown 16 pulled onto the highway from a private drive. Brown was cited for failing to yield.
