Grundy County Elderly Housing Project Released From Federal Freeze

Grundy County's 50 unit elderly housing project has been released from the Presidential funding freeze. Tracy Adcock announced the July 27 release to begin site selection with HUD Chicago and a housing authority task force. An earlier 100 unit elderly and 100 unit low income plan is being reworked with HUD and National Homes Corp. as potential developers.

Grant Confirms Funding for New Community Center

The city received a $280,393 grant from HUD to aid acquiring and developing a 20 acre parcel owned by the Borens north of George Street between Lynwood and Newton Drives for a community recreation center. The city plans a referendum on general obligation bonds to raise the matching funds.

Nettletown mortgage sale and new Ottawa Bend plans

The Colonial Bank and Trust Co of Chicago bought Nettletown Village Ltd. mortgage from The Baird and Warner Mortgage and Realty Investors. The court dismissed the Baird and Warner suit and projected release of the mortgage will let mechanical liens take priority. Bruce J. Frey announced under new ownership Ottawa Bend Apartments will complete construction and the project name will change.

Nixon contends court lacks jurisdiction over Cox subpoena

Lawyers for President Nixon told a federal judge the court has no jurisdiction to enforce the Watergate subpoena for presidential tape recordings. The White House brief argues executive privilege shields the tapes and that disclosure would violate separation of powers. Narvick Brothers General Contractors of Morris submitted the sole bid for the 2,700 square foot children’s room at a lump sum of 30 444 dollars covering labor materials and all trades. The Morris Public Library Board reviewed the bid through its building completion committee chaired by Robert Macdonald.

Sheriff Warns of Gas Blast Near Illinois River

Grundy County Sheriff William Button announced a gas release near the Illinois River south of the Northern Petrochemical plant, starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Donald Vohrer, pipeline foreman, said the release from NI Gas Company's supplemental natural gas plant east of Morris will create a roaring sound for about 45 minutes. The event involves the pipeline from the plant east of Morris.
