Morris City approves planning map and fluoridation plan

Morris City Council approves a 25 to 30 year physical planning map by the Planning Commission with a 7-0 vote. Alderman Nelson abstains. The council also adopts an ordinance to fluoridate the water supply.

Freshmen Registration Program At Morris Community High

An orientation for next year's freshmen and parents is set for 7 30 p m at the M C H S auditorium. MCHS and home room mothers sponsor. Administrators explain school rules and policies while guidance staff address enrollment questions. Coffee milk and cookies will be served in the cafeteria after the meeting.

Public Speaking Contest Slated at Morris High School

The Morris Community High School Future Farmers of America will host the District II public speaking contest on Wednesday evening. Winners from five FFA sections in prepared and extemporaneous events will advance to the state contest on April 30 with Kenneth Jorstad representing the MCHS chapter.

Community Chest and Red Cross Plan Joint Campaign

Directors of Grundy County Community Chest approve a plan to merge campaigns with Grundy County American Red Cross. A committee including Jack Strobel Edward Henna and Earl Kay will work out details and report in June. Fifteen director changes and a calendar shift from June 1 to October 1 are approved.

Weather: April cooler and drier than normal

The U S Weather Bureau reports April to date is cooler and drier than normal with continued cool conditions through Wednesday. Skies will be mostly clear and no precipitation is expected. a high of 51 degrees was recorded at Collins Weather Station with a low of 36 overnight. Temperatures are 42 at 9 am and 46 in the business district at 11 am.

Stangland to Compete in State Beef Contest

Robert Stangland of Route 4 earned second place in the area Beef Carcass of Tomorrow contest at Rochelle and will compete for top honors at the state finals in Champaign on Thursday during Cattle Feeders Day. The event is sponsored by the University of Illinois extension service.

Morris Chamber elects John George as new president

John George owner of the Saratoga Inn and Service Station was elected Morris Chamber of Commerce president for a one year term at a directors meeting. He succeeds Lester Johnson who becomes a director for one year. New officers include Waldo Bolen Jr as first vice president and Atty John Hynds as second vice president with Conrad Weitz as treasurer.

The Grundy County Board met to review E H Greenwood s audit for the year ended November 30 1965. Pilch leads Morris Rotary Club president group of 41 from District 644 leaving Chicago for a three day visit to Air Force installations in the Denver area. The itinerary includes the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs and NORAD facilities with return to Chicago Thursday night.

U S Air Force B52s attacked North Vietnam hitting Mu Gia Pass as part of a large raid while Viet Cong forces mauled a U S rifle company 40 miles east of Saigon. The battle left heavy American casualties and helicopters could not evacuate the dead until cleared paths were cut through the jungle.

Saigon Air Base Hit by Viet Cong Fire

Viet Cong mortars hit Tan Son Nhut air base near Saigon early Wednesday. A gasoline storage tank was damaged as Allied aircraft responded with flare illumination. Two U.S. airmen on duty described hearing explosions as fuel tanks burned and ambulances moved about the civilian and military sections of the base.
