Incumbent supervisors across townships held their seats in a high turnout. Sidney Carr led Wauponsee with 255 votes against Walter Watchinski 223 in a contest with splits by precincts.
In Big Grove Township Kendall County a write-in challenger won by one vote over two on ballot rivals. Russell Koska 100 writes in. Richard Johnson 99. Earl O M Weeks 41. Gulbran Gulbranson did not seek reelection. Other township races vary with incumbents reelected or defeated. Road tax renewal passed in Fox Township 112 to 45.
Edward Kovicmy 45 of Skokie and Jack Devine 33 of Morton Grove died in a Tuesday I-55 crash near Smith's Bridge Will County. They were passengers in a car driven by Gerald Prosken 27 of Chicago en route to a chemical plant. the semi driver Curtis Gose 32 of Chicago and Prosken escaped. The car and semi burned after a semi struck, with Kovicmy and Devine pronounced dead at the scene.
Mild spring weather spread across Illinois with highs in the 50s and 60s and lows in the 30s. In Morris the Dresden Island area saw 53/25 and 31 at 7 am with 56 downtown at 11:15 pm. A five-vehicle crash near Arsenal Rd involved Lynville Keaton and others. several were hospitalized but later released or in fair condition. Grundy County offices will close Friday for Good Friday with City Clerk hours shortened. local banks and a savings association also close at noon for the day.
Chester P. Winsor, who has served seven years as magistrate and 16 years earlier as a justice of the peace in Grundy County, announced his retirement set for June 30. He said he had planned to retire in October but will end service in June due to constitutional changes. Beginning July 1 when the new Constitution takes effect, magistrates will be eliminated and associate judges will take their place.
Minooka Village Board approved the final plat for McDonald Lake Estates Unit 2, adding 22 lots east of the village. A village election canvass is set for Monday April 26 at 7 30 p.m. Easter Sunrise services will be held at Free Methodist Church with six area churches participating. A youth choir will perform and a breakfast will follow.
Four candidates seek two seats on the Minooka High School board in the April 10 election. Polls run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at two precincts, with Precinct 1 voting at Junokr High Building and Precinct 2 at Channahon Grade School. Biographies detail Clyde Heap Robert Cook Barry Boothe and David McConachie plus party roles and community service.
