A two vehicle crash on Interstate 55 near Smith's Bridge at the Mobile Oil Co construction site killed two unidentified persons and injured three others. The semi driven by Custis Gosa of Chicago pinned a car, catching fire. Gosa escaped before Channahon Fire Dept halted the flames.

A Mazon man, Richard Barr, 23, an instructor, was listed in good condition after a midair collision near Hinsdale Airport. Four other people from two planes were seriously injured but improving, with witnesses placing the crash about 50 feet from the runway as firefighting squads responded. Fatal accident in LaSalle County prompts inquest verdict
A LaSalle County coroner's jury ruled Charles Robert Fox 25 of Lordminster Saskatchewan died accidentally after being struck by a auto driven by Stuart A. Brown 19 of Morris while Fox repaired a tire on the highway shoulder five miles east of Marseilles along Interstate 80. The inquest heard no eyewitnesses and Brown declined to testify. Coroner James Thompson said a transcript review could determine possible charges against Brown.
