Aux Sable Township votes tie in supervisor race

In Aux Sable, Democrat James McEvilly and Republican Leonard Bols tied 339 339 for supervisor. A five day canvass by a board of township officials will decide, with drawing of lots to choose the winner if the tie stands. Voter totals and several clerk and auditor races followed across multiple townships including Minooka, Nettie Creek, Highland, Braceville, Vienna, and Morris, with various incumbents re elected or defeated.

Mission Hills annexation and zoning recommended by Morris panel

The Morris Planning Commission backed annexation and zoning for Mission Hills Subdivision. The 42.5 acre site west of Lisbon Road would include 17 acres for multi family and the rest for single family with a lake and church, with open space and a buffer along I-80.

Weather report notes cool temperatures and mixed precipitation

Forecast calls for occasional light rain or drizzle with a continued cool high in the low 40s. Tonight will be partly cloudy and colder with freezing temperatures. Thursday looks partly sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 40s. Tuesday’s high reached 47 at the Dresden Island Locks and Dam, with a 37 low. Morning readings showed 37 at 7 am and 44 in downtown Morris at 10:30 am.

Probation Granted in Deceptive Practice Case

John Fisher, 35, of Joliet, received two years probation after pleading guilty to seven bad checks totaling 1293 dollars. The sentence includes restitution within one year and stems from a negotiated plea arranged by State's Atty. Richard Wilder and Fisher's Joliet counsel.

Coffee machines vary by market and user needs

Farl C. Ramsey of Rowe International says vending machines must adapt to local tastes and conditions. Japanese models produce coffee two and a half times sweeter, Swedish units brew a cup twice as strong, and South American machines need easily adjustable coin slots for inflation. U.S. designs aim to reduce bending for service by workers.

Reimann Piche trial date set in Yorkville case

May 21 is the trial date for Carl Reimann 31 and Mrs Betty Piche 30 charged with the Dec 29 Pine Village Steak House murder robbery case near Yorkville Illinois 47. Piche to be tried immediately after Reimann. Jury motions ruled by Circuit Judge Carl Swanson in Rockford during two day hearings.

Baby burns from coffee spill in Illinois town

One year old Kimberly Stewart of Braidwood was treated at St. James Hospital Pontiac for burns to the chest stomach and wrist after spilling hot coffee. The family car broke down en route and Trooper Robert Stevenson helped complete the transfer. Hospital reports say she is in good condition and progressing well.

Lumber price controls urged by builders at Washington hearing

The National Association of Home Builders representing 67000 members urged the Cost of Living Council to impose mandatory price controls on lumber to curb housing costs. They proposed a base price on logs from federal lands and limits on mills and distributors’ markups. The group cited Phase 3 price jumps and argued some federal controls are needed despite opposed views from leader George C. Martin of Louisville Kentucky.
