Moravia community receives commendations for a fine Fall Festival held shortly after a successful bicentennial three day celebration. Crowds were strong with many former residents returning for both events. Attendees say this year’s turnout matched or exceeded past festivals despite format changes.
Festival planners shifted carnival activity away from the entertainment stage to improve audience enjoyment. Saturday featured games, contests, and afternoon stage entertainment before a big parade. A rolling pin throw brought humor as Mrs. Allen lent a 40 year old pin. Citizens weighed dog-town cleanup and political activity amid fall crowds as candidates milled about and voters watched to see if campaigning pays off.
Church of the Nazarene led by Pastor D R Alites hosts a September schedule including Sunday School Bible study at 10:00 a.m. Morning service at 11:00 a.m. and baptismal, choir, and youth activities. Evangelistic service at 7:30 p.m. Prayer Meeting Wednesday 7:30 p.m. Prayer and Fasting Thursday noon. Transportation line offered. There is a Power to lift us up.
The Teontum United Methodist Church invites on September worship with Rev L B Deedrick and Pastor Donald Whitehead. Services include 9 30 a m worship lifting the Cross, 10 30 a m Sunday School and 7 p m Bible classes for adults youths and children. UMW meeting set for September 30 at 1 30 p m. The message centers on forgiveness from First Corinthians followed by a closing thought on revenge and forgiveness.

Edith Callen and neighbors attended Clover Leaf Club picnic at Honey Creek State Park. Various families including Argo, Dicks, Messamaker, Rinehart, and Hartz shared visits, dinners, and birthdays around Vossburg from Wednesday through Monday, with trips to Ottumwa and Davenport.
Edward Haver visited at the Heliyer home Tuesday evening. Lloyd Brown served on a Centerville jury. John Huff and Ryan of Knoxville joined Gene Huff at his home for a weekend visit. Tory Huff and Jason shared Sunday dinner with Mr and Mrs Huff. Harold Huff visited Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Clarence Whitehead attended UMW at Moravia Wednesday. Dick and Hazel Hellyer and others attended Centerville’s 40th class reunion Friday evening. Orville McCord and family from East Moline spent Saturday night and Sunday.
Mrs. Edward McCord and Mrs. Clarence Whitehead attended the Ottumwa District UMW meeting in Fairfield. Moravia Fall Festival drew nearly all residents with members serving dinner and a Flower Fund report by Mary Sue. Officers elected include president Feola Lain and secretary Edith Beaty. memorial service planned for October 12 at Mystic Methodist Church.
The North Bend Ladies Aid met for the first session of fall with Mary Sue Moffitt presiding in Joyce Phillips absence. The vice president opened with a poem Aut Autumn in the Air.
