Three year old Brenda Jo Welch, daughter of Beverly Welch of Newton, was seriously burned when their home caught fire around 1 30 p m Monday. The blaze began near a recently installed gas hot water heater. flames rushed from the bathroom when the mother opened the door. Brenda suffered burns to her legs and was bandaged from the waist down. Her maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs Floyd Simmons of Moravia.
Sharon Walter and Neil Penfield were wed in a double ring ceremony Sunday at Moravia Methodist Church. The couple, both Moravia graduates, will reside at Iconium after a short wedding trip.
Moravia Eastern Stars hosted a friendship program night with guest officers from Bussey Solilla Centerville Knoxville Albia Mystic Moulton and Unionville. The event featured readings by Mrs Zell Callen Vanessa Long songs by Vanessa Long with piano by Mrs John Guthrey a clarinet duet with Linda Davis marimba solos by Mrs John Guthrey and accompaniment by Mrs George Winsler readings by Nell Rousseau of Louilla and program charge by Nola Scott of Albia. Refreshments of homemade cookies coffee mints and nuts were served from a lace covered table with a star flower centerpiece.
Appanoose County Council of Churches holds a meeting Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock in Moravia Methodist Church. Rev. James Thomas of Centerville presides, with speaker Rev. Raymond Sparerri of Des Moines, and Rev. Coleman leading devotional services. Public is invited.
Unionville Baptist church members and friends surprised their pastor Rev Swift and his wife on their 25th wedding anniversary with a cooperative supper at the church parlors. The event featured gifts including a stainless tableware set and honored attendees listed among family and church members.
The Unionville Baptist Young People host a youth rally September 25 at 7 30 p m bringing together Baptist youths ages 13 through 25 from several southern Iowa churches and their pastors wives and sponsors. Special singing led by Bob Cariness with David Valders as guest speaker. Refreshments served in the church basement after services. Everyone in the area is invited.
The Nazarene Foreign Missionary society met at the Nazarene church for the September meeting with Mrs LaVern Smith presiding. The session opened with a hymn led by Mrs Bill Woodward Jr and a prayer by Judy Woodward. Mrs Smith led devotions while Mrs Wm Woodward presented requests for the box work. Main directed the lesson on Formosa mission works as Rev Mr Smith gave the closing prayer.
Regular church night was held Wednesday evening at the Evangelical United Brethren church. Miss Mariel Coulson and Mrs. Ted Wilson led the program, Mr. Wilson showed colored slides of the Black Hills and other places of interest. Refreshments of pie and coffee were served by Mrs. Ira Boyer and Mrs. Pearl Swaim.
The Union suggests planning a public sale with sale bills and advertisements to reach a wide audience. It promises broad territorial coverage and a successful outcome through printed notices.
Local residents share visits and family gatherings across Centerville Unionville Nucla Dinuba and Des Moines. Names include Magnalls Veachs Johnsons Lehman Smiths Hiatts Perrys Robbs and Elders with trips from Ft Lauderdale and Des Moines and a fall festival attendance.
The American Legion auxiliary met at the Legion home on a Tuesday evening with Mrs. Larry Brooks presiding. Plans were made for a rummage and bake sale on Sept. 25, delegates reported from the Des Moines auxiliary conference, and Moravia was discussed as the upcoming county meeting place.
4H boys who are 14 years of age are noted for an upcoming convention on October 23. The event is described in terse terms with emphasis on the age group and date.
