Last week's Moravia fall festival drew hundreds of former residents and celebrated local bakers and florists while a national discussion surfaced about race and a governor accused of federal noncompliance. The piece questions progress versus old problems and notes Moravia’s current racial absence.
Moravia officials discuss plans for a large community district to provide equal classroom space, reduce rural schools, and lower taxes. The plan promises music, physical education, and enhanced opportunities across the district. Fred Tillmont notes discussions with Gov Loveless and local thresher convention actions.
Udell by Mrs H B Spring and Alvin Spring and Tommy visit the Argo Brothers near Iconium. Mrs Robert White sees Mrs Carrie White in Centerville. Joe Moore and Timmy spend time with Raymond Hughes. Gene Glasgow visits Harry Wilkinson. Sammy Moore stays with Bobby Hofer. Burkland and Murdy couples travel to Bloomfield for REA day. Robert Long family reunites in Washington park. Woodrow Duty party from Mexico, Mo. visits Joe Moore home for weekend. Nearby relatives visit including Lorance Morlan Mae Morlan Cecil Morlan Gene Dixon and family. Duty hospitalized but improving. Ora Powell Marlyn and Carl Phillips attend Basil Hiatt home and view Hawaii trip pictures. Others at Hiatt home include Harold and Luella Mishler Anna Phillips Eva White and Earl. Frank Bennett and Leslie Potter drive to Iowa City to bring Mrs Potter home after week in Uni
Residents and guests visited across town and nearby towns. Dewey Houser Jr and family from Knoxville stayed at the Houser home. Selix family attended a Brooke reunion in Newton. Joe Moore hosted guests from Mexico Mo and Mae Morlan.
Funeral services were held for Mrs Elza Kellar of Centerville at First Baptist Church Centerville with many relatives attending including Mr and Mrs Charles Andrews Mrs Dean Andrews and several others. Burial followed in Seymour. Multiple relatives visited and spent time at various homes in Centerville Seymour and Newton over the weekend. Homecoming at the Miller church Sept 21 with Rev Boyd Wright of Ottumwa to speak in the afternoon service.
Mrs Lorene Tubaugh spent Tuesday afternoon at the Lee Tadlock home. Mr and Mrs Charles Andrews attended the Tom Long funeral Sunday in Centerville. Kenny Tadlock began work in Newton Monday. Mrs Richard Tubaugh attended the Fair Seminar meeting in Centerville Tuesday. Mrs Gerald Burton entered Ottumwa hospital Tuesday and will undergo surgery Wednesday.
