County Agent Advises Digging Potatoes Now
Taylor township gardeners should dig potatoes before vines die for best results. Early harvest yields better seed and flavor, with summer digging aiding storage. Cool cellars beat potato beds in heat, and store in dark narrow bins or crates. Protect from sun, pick up tubers promptly, dig in early morning or late evening, and cool overnight if dug at dusk. Potatoes risk sunscald and rot if left exposed.
