A meeting is called for Friday evening to plan Moravia 21st Fall Festival and Farmers Institute. Farmers and citizens are urged to attend, as previous rain reduced country turnout and more ideas are sought to ease the festival burden.
The fourth annual McCumber reunion was held east of Moravia on August 22, 1924. Twenty nine family members attended including A. C. Bentrude and daughter Jean Lois from Waterloo and Ileeta McCumber from Des Moines. A noon dinner followed by ice cream and watermelon and an afternoon program with a dollar prize to Mrs. Walter Gideon and son for a minstrel stunt. A letter from John McCumber of Colorado was read and officers named for next year: Geo. E. McCumber President, Harvey McCumber Vice President, Mrs Lowell Harris Secretary.
The fourth annual Callen reunion took place at Tourisl Park in Albin Jows on August 26, 1926, with 78 attendees. A morning of socializing led to a cafeteria lunch, followed by a program of songs, recitations, and solos performed mainly by Callen family members, then games, photos, and ice cream in the evening. Officials for 1927 were elected, including W. O. Coulson as president and O. L. Callen as vice president, with a long list of attending families and out-of-town visitors noted. The next reunion is planned for the yet Sunday in August 1927 near Moravia.
A collision on a Foster road curve left Harold Stufflebeam Mrs Stufflebeam and their infant unharmed while a Ford driven by Carl Knapp crashed into their Chevrolet roadster. The Ford’s running gear was torn out and the Chevrolet wheel driven back under the car. The baby was thrown about ten feet but suffered no injuries. Both drivers escaped serious harm as the Ford turnout sped and the rear end swerved, damaging the other car.
The Moravia Fall Festival and Farmers Institute adds a Saddle Horse Show with premium awards. Local owners expect an entertaining event featuring fine saddle horses. The show will be held on Saturday, September 18.
All members and families of the Morayla Rebekah lodge are invited to attend meetings at the O C F Hall on Thursday September 2. Mrs Tierney of Ottumwa will attend and a lunch will be available with a commission drawing. Bring your dinner.
Mrs J D Ball wife of Mystic Sentinel editor J D Ball died at Des Moines hospital after a serious illness lasting weeks. She is survived by her husband, son Carl Ball of Centerville Star Printing Co and a daughter who helps with the Sentinel. Our sympathies are with the family.
The Moray Iowa church announces no services next Sunday due to the Iowa Conference in Montezuma. Regular Sunday School at 10, Epworth League at 7, and W mens Auxiliary meetings and mite box openings are planned. Farewell supper honors Blumenatock family as they head to college and requests church attendance. Local happenings include job ad for a middle aged woman, fair attendance by local families, and visitors from Des Moines and Lancaster Mo.
Basil Cowell Post No 361 plans to take possession of the Alvin Hiatt house on the square to serve as a post and auxiliary home. The move follows donations and benefit fund building, with remodeling planned later. Moravia Public Schools start the 1926-27 year with 2649 enrolled, 140 in high school, 90 tuition pupils from outside the district, and new playground equipment funded by grade events.
A quiet Moravia wedding occurred Sunday at 5 pm at the groom's mother's home. Osa Foster, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Foster, wed Claude Wren in a ceremony by Rev R C Rowe with only immediate family present. The couple plan to live in town where Wren works for contractor F W Blumenstock.
Church of Christ schedules Sunday School at 10 AM and Communion at 11 AM with prayer meeting Wednesday at 8 PM. Ladies Aid meets Wednesday afternoon. Sept 1 Centerville rally parade plan discussed at next Sunday School. August perfect attenders include Mrs Free, Mrs Wakefield, Mrs McKern. 293 Bible chapters read.
John Van Zante delivered a notable hog consignment from Moravia described as among the best in recent memory. The 4% pigs, 61 months old, averaged about 220 pounds, with four stock loads shipped this past week and eighteen carloads sent out in the last month.
Notice to students and teachers asks for a large attendance next Sunday for the farewell of G T Harn as teacher of the claws. The piece mentions a new line of ink pens and pencils from Smith Drug Co. Visitors Wakefield and Miss Faye Odden of Unionville visited Moravis Thursday evening.
The Harn family, longtime residents and prominent merchants, announce their move to Albia next Monday. G T Harn, active in many fraternal groups and known for forty years of Sunday School teaching, retires from the family store now run by Emmett Scott. His New York Life career and his daughter Misa Mabel's teaching in Albia accompany the relocation.
Moravia learns the Blumenstock family will relocate to Upland California for the coming school year. Mrs Blumenstock Wilhelm AuRen and Mary Louise will drive via Lincoln Highway by Salt Lake City while Mr Rhonenstock stays to complete building plans then joins them for a few months. Wilhelm and AuRen graduate last spring and will attend Chaffee Junior College. The family will be missed for church and social involvement and musical talent with several farewell events held in their honor.
