The annual Van Dorin reunion gathered 55 for a cooperative dinner at Moravia park on Sunday August 21. Entertainment featured music by the Van Dorin sisters and Vincent children. Officers re-elected were Lowell VanDorin president Arthur Van Dorin vice president and Ethel VanDorin secretary treasurer. Moravia schools opened with what appears to be the largest enrollment in history. Freshmen numbered 46 and kindergarten enrollment reached 24, including 14 on buses to the Community building. Total grades enrollment reaches 213 in grades and 141 in high school, 354 overall, compared with past years. Athletic coach Carr outlines fall baseball plans as FFA members return for activities tied to the state fair. Vernon Thorsen, injured last week, was back at work in the agriculture room.

Walter Ernest Paris, 23, was seriously injured in a highway No. 63 wreck four miles south of Ottumwa Wednesday morning. Thelma Carol Klyn and Mrs. Roger Fletcher, both Albia residents, suffered head injuries with Fletcher listed in critical condition. Paris had back and chest injuries. The car overturned multiple times after failing to navigate a hill turn. Leo Thompson arrived first at the scene. Paris, son of Claude Paris, is a Moravia High School 1949 graduate and former air force member now employed at John Deere works in Ottumwa.
