Superintendent Robert Wells said he believes the school defacing and harassment problems at homes and property may be resolved soon. He is eager for normal routines and scheduled extracurriculars to resume.
Alumni worry over a mid week homecoming on October 21 as students chose the Wednesday to align with a school break due to a state teachers convention. They recall Webster defined homecoming as a yearly alumni reunion and fear weather could disrupt the event, with future games at Corydon and Leon in chilly conditions.
Mrs Howard Burkland reports a large group of relatives and friends from Washington and Iowa gathered at the Lionel Spring home in Udell for a Sunday dinner. Attendees included Earl Argo and family of Carbonado, Sam Argo of Centerville, Carton Stay and Cindy of Louilla, Micky Bronson and family, Doyle Spring, Alvin Spring and Tommy, Marlene Lobb of Unionville, Dan Hargrave and family of Unionville, and Alice Spring of Udell. Mrs Albert Burkland returned with them.
Mr and Mrs Milford Holler visited Artesia New Mexico and Missouri relatives after a several day stay. Mel Pettitt Otterawa joined the Howard Burkland family for an evening. Larry Hedgecock’s children spent the weekend with great grandmother Lillian Sprouse. Robert Doud Grinnell and family stayed with Vernon Weilbrenner. Carson Slay Cindy Louilla visited Lionel Spring home from Saturday to Monday. Jim Felton Agnes Burkland attended a church meeting in Lockridge. Richard Ogden Bill G Houser and families dined with Howard Burkland. Mary Ellen Spring and Margaret Bronson spent Wednesday in Ottumwa. Thelma Hedgecock visited Larry Hedgecock Ottumwa. Earl Argo left Des Moines for Carbonado Washington.
Mr and Mrs Charles Cross visited Mr and Mrs Earl Fenton Friday and Sunday evenings. Arlo Fenton and Mrs Tarbell spent Sunday in Albia with Dolph Tarbell and called on Hugh McFatridge. Earl Fenton hosted relatives and a Reed Narber sale at Lucas was attended. Gail Hamilton and family from Aurora Illinois visited Atwell home due to Carl Hamilton’s serious illness.
Connie Fenton and Carol joined the Clover Leaf 4 club girls at Piano Christian Church Sunday morning for Sunday School.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward McCord were in Genterville Saturday. Bobby Whitehead attended the MYF Subdistrict Rally at Moravia Sunday afternoon. Home from this vicinity attended the football game at Moravia Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Huff spent Friday evening at the Bud McVanel home. Hoy Tarcell spent Sunday nights with Steven Huff.
The Board of Supervisors of Appanoose County met in regular session with Doyle N. Anderson Carl Kivana and Arthur M. Streapy present. They transacted routine business and approved numerous payments including general fund expenses for offices, supplies, postage, salaries, and services. road and jail costs. and various department reimbursements and contractual purchases.
Moravia town council met at 7 30 p m in regular session with Mayor Angel presiding. Minutes approved and budget adopted as published. Treasurer and bills approved. numerous line items listed. Special session Sept 8 authorized Fall Festival use and adjourned.
