Gene Paris Service Duty With Air Force Details

Gene Paris writes of service in the Air Force after four years on active duty. He trained at Aly Force Base in Texas and Kite Force Base in Wichita Falls then studied jet aircraft engines and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Lincoln Air Force Base under Strategic Air Command. He served three years as a jet mechanic, had two temporary tours with the 88th Reflex forces in England, and traveled to Newfoundland Azores and Scotland. After active duty he entered standby service in Denver and seeks work with the Des Moines Air National Guard. He is a Moravia high school graduate class of 1953.

Four H members, parents, leaders and friends will gather for the annual award night at the Christian church in Centerville on November 5 at 6:00 p.m. A cooperative supper with meat loaf escalloped potatoes vegetable salad fruit pie will be served. milk and coffee provided from county 4 H funds. Welding School Starts Here Nov 5 Moravia

The Area Development Program and Moravia School announce a 16 week welding course starting Monday November 5 at the Gas Main building in Moravia. Applicants must be unemployed or underemployed residents of Appanoose or Monroe counties and apply through Centerville Employment office. Trainees will receive $31 weekly unemployment benefits during training.

Fairview School Homecoming Draws About 50 Attendees

About fifty persons attended the Fairview school homecoming on Sunday October 7 with a cooperative basket dinner at noon. President Sam Proctor opened the meeting after the secretary treasurer Mrs. Sam Proctor read last year’s minutes. Officers for 1963 elected Howard Proctor president Elvin Stocker vice president and Mrs. Bert Drake secretary treasurer. A program committee led by Mrs. Elvin Stocker planned events including readings songs skit and a community sing. The next meeting is set for the first Sunday in October 1963.

Federal Pasture Improvement Plan To Be Explained Here

The Moravia meeting tonight will outline a federal pasture renovation plan affecting Appanoose and Monroe counties. The plan covers about 175000 acres with 80 percent federal cost sharing. ASCS officials including Doyle Hampton and local township leaders will explain township meetings and applications at 7 30 PM in the Moravia community building.

Moravia Library Board Sets Hours and News

The Moravia library board met for a quarterly session at the library on Saturday in October. The next meeting is planned for Saturday January 5 1963. The board requires unpaid fines to be paid before borrowing more books and will open the library at 2 00 p m with evening hours from 7 00 to 9 00. Miss Mabel Coulson starts as librarian after Mrs Charles Coffin resigns. Mrs Marian Woodward presides as library board president and honors Coffin for seven years of service.

Mr and Mrs Ray McCloud were entertained Sunday by their children and grandchildren at the Donald McCloud home to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary. The couple wed on October 7 with guests including Alta Main of Centerville and a congratulatory call from daughter Mildred Phitlis in Denver Colorado.

Township Meetings Set With ASCS and Conservation Leaders

The county ASCS committee and office manager William Stark of the Soil Conservation Service along with county extension director Harold Holder lead a one year program. It covers brush removal liming fertilizing and seed according to soil needs with soil sampling and field inspections by ASCS personnel and vendors. Every farmer whether in the feed grain program or not may attend and will receive a township meeting notice by mail.

The NLF.M.S. met at the Nazarene church on Wednesday evening for their monthly gathering. William Woodward led the opening song, Mrs. LaVerne Smith presided, and the devo tion topic was Jesus Never Fails. Darrell Holtz led the closing prayer.

Noted Indian speaker set for Moravia Youth Rally

Rochunga Pudaite, grandson of a tribal chief from northeast India, will address Moravia Community Youth Rally at the High School on October 26 27 and 28 at 745 p m. He studied at Wheaton College and translated sacred texts into his tribal language. He is executive director of the Indo Burma Pioneer Mission, which runs schools and Bible training in India and Burma. The event emphasizes youth but all are welcome.
