Citizens discuss rainmaking ideas after three weeks of heavy precipitation. Soybean harvest and silage cutting halted by soggy fields while basement construction stalls. Town contemplates bold projects like a seven foot deep swimming pool as Mayor Dayne Taylor expresses perplexity after a post office incident.
The Moravia office lobby filled with people as the Union did not arrive at the post office on schedule. We waited for contracts for the new school building and for the Oehler Bros anniversary advertisement, with printing delays noted and a call for readers to help make the paper lively.
The Antiquity Lodge No. 252 A F and A M observed its 75th anniversary on October 13. Other notes include several local weddings Miss Hilda Dykes Rathbun and Maurice Walter Moravia Sept 24 and Roma Isabelle Foster with Carl Robert Tomlin Sept 25, along with birthdays and a road project update in Unionville and Moravia.
Mrs Dallas Faber and guests join prayer circle at Gomer Stocker home. Neighborhood families, including Bentzingers and McDanels, visit, attend services, and share meals across Albia Ottumwa Des Moines and Lincoln Nebraska. Urbana 4-H rally attendees and golden wedding anniversary notices close the week.
Otto Carr spent Saturday with sister Edna Moore in Udell. Bob Morlan, Lionel Spring and Mae Morlan had dinner at Alvin Spring’s Thursday. Mae Morlan visited Lorance Morlan. Mrs Moore guests and visits continued through Sunday. Karen Moore joined a four day vacation in Mexico with her relatives. Mrs Josie Stuckey stayed with E A Caylor due to Wilford Smith illness. Rev B D Hinegardner and Mary Lee arrived from Mathias W Virginia to help at Brethren church. Joe Moore’s household hosted several visits around Centerville and Kansas City.
A long list of neighbors from Edna Moore to Blakesburg spent weekends and weekdays visiting kin and friends across Centerville Udell and nearby towns. Trips included a Los Altos move plan, stops in Topeka and Wyoming, and family birthday gatherings in Washington Iowa and Beacon.
Mrs. Ida Caylor remained with her daughter in Centerville as her health improves. Several locals visited and hosted gatherings including a Stanley party at Theresa Comstock's home with Marie Comstock, and attendees from Alicia Marysville Melrose and Moravia. Various relatives shared visits through Thursday to Sunday, with health updates and neighborhood socializing noted.
Those who helped and called on Genevie and Dorothy Donovan this week were Tom Pettibone Irvin Kelvig Mr and Mrs Ivan Harsh Lucile West Lucile Carter Mrs Lois Wilson and girls Mr and Mrs John Wood and Lynda and Mr and Mrs Junior Donovan and family. Mr and Mrs Ivan Harsh and Bob spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Ivan Shields and Marilyn at.
