George C. Hazelwood died near noon Friday in his kitchen. Born January 9 1862 in Jefferson county he moved to the Teonium area in 1864. Surviving are daughter Reena Breese two grandsons and a sister. Funeral at Mrs Edgar Breese home with burial in Teonium cemetery.
The Moravia American Legion Auxiliary unit will host a county group gathering at the Post Home in Moravia on Thursday evening. A cooperative dinner is planned at 6 30 followed by a program. All Auxiliary members are urged to attend.
The Alfred Carlson and Freeman Jolly families dined at the country home of Mr and Mrs D B Hellyer on Sunday. The meal honored Mrs Carlson, aunt of Mr Hellyer, whose birthday recently occurred. Mrs Mary Putnam was unable to attend. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Condra welcomed a daughter born Sunday night after moving from Centerville to run the Standard Oil agency.
Moravia residents watched a low flying plane last Saturday with a crew member later identified as Captain John R. Lovell at Fort Leavenworth. Mrs. Chas Coffin received his card noting the visit and aim to attract attention as he attends officers school.
Classified ad by G. Davis offers broad sows for sale. It cost 10¢ and drew inquiries from Albia Blakesburg Teonomi Center ville and other towns. Sows were sold by 9:30 Thursday morning and nearly 50 calls followed. Mr. Davis notes Moravia Union publicity helps sales.
Mr and Mrs John R Lockman will celebrate their Golden Wedding anniversary on Sunday October 9 Friends are invited to call at their home between 2 and 6 pm on that day Mrs Lockman was formerly Florence Dotson
Mrs M F Samsel nee Andrews born December 23 1861 near Moravia Iowa to Rev George Andrews later moved with husband M F Samsel to Kenesaw Nebraska lived many years in the region. She died September 18 1938 at Hastings hospital with funeral September 20 in Kenesaw conducted by Rev Setterlund. She was a Presbyterian member survived by husband two sons D D Beatrice and LG Samuel Racine Wis one daughter Mia Gra Shultz Central City Nebr two brothers C N Andrews Mateland Mo and S P Andrews Wagner Oklahoma.
Five boys appeared in Justice Brain's court on charges of stealing watermelons and damaging the Irvin Allen farm patch. They were given a choice between paying a sizable fine or attending Sunday School for three months.

Mystic mourns A G Megrew known as Sandy who died Wednesday at Des Moines Veterans hospital at 10 30 am from a liver abscess He was 48 years old World War veteran and former manager of Mystic Telephone Co now with Deep River Telephones He is survived by his widow a son Billy a daughter Betty five brothers and one sister Funeral services were held Friday at 2 30 pm from the American Legion Home Mystic with interment at Highland cemetery

Newly elected officers of Ap panoose County American Legion were named at Centerville meeting last Friday. Ray Clark of Mystic was chosen Commander with Fred Hammond of Moravia as Vice Commander Maj Luse of Centerville named Finance Officer Rev R L Brown of Moravia as Chaplain and Barney Felkner of Centerville as Sgt at Arms.
The Farm Bureau ladies from Taylor Union Douglas and Chariton townships met at Mrs Fred Blumenstock home Wednesday for the first lesson of the year Miss Irma Garner of Ames led the session which won Phase I On Grafta in the class competition

Word from Moulton says the Grand Master of Masons in Iowa and other Grand Lodge officers will preside at the cornerstone laying for the new Moulton gymnasium Friday at 1 30 o clock. Local Masons and others invited to participate in the afternoon program and a big lodge meeting at night with the Grand Master present.
A. C. Faber received word of his brother Matt Faber’s death in Minburn Iowa Wednesday morning around 4 30. Mr and Mrs A C Faber and other relatives in the area plan to attend the funeral to be held in Minburn Friday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs Charles Broshar and daughter returned Sunday from a two week trip to Fort Morgan Colorado visiting Ed Purvis family and other relatives. They drove into the mountains Estes Park and enjoyed wildlife with rattlesnakes coyotes and jack rabbits. The trip is described as a real vacation by the artist.

Mrs C W Grinstead received a surprise birthday dinner Sunday October 2 hosted by her children, nieces and nephews at her sister’s home near Moravia. Guests included the Grinstead and Burns families from Otumwa Keosagawa Bloomfield Milton Dallas and Moravia along with sharing wishes and gifts.
The Salem United Brethren Church homecoming, postponed earlier, was held Sunday with morning and afternoon sessions well attended. Rev. T. J. Zike led services at Moravia United Brethren church, featuring talks, songs, music, and prayers.
