Moravia Union announces its status as second class mail matter. The notice lists the mail classification date February 23, 1905, and the Moravia Iowa post office as the filing location under the 1879 act provisions.
In Moravia, a pending congressional race features a dog tax as a prime issue while residents prepare to decide on a water system. After a rainy season left private wells full, the town may reassess the urgency of a municipal water project previously highlighted by the water truck era and past debt concerns.
Engineers say Moravia is a fine town without a water supply and a private system is costly but a town project could be a permanent improvement. Nearby towns with new systems report solid operation and finances, prompting Moravia to decide early next year whether to pursue a town supply or not.
Moravia Rebekah lodge met with Helen Lou Stocker presiding. Plans were made for a base sale on December 12 at the Walter Upholster store starting at 1 00 p m until the drawing. Elsa DeLong admitted by transfer. Zenia Flint of Centerville reported the assembly and Centerville lodge presented a traveling emblem. New members honored with gifts. Present were Mrs Wayne McDanel Mrs George Railing Mrs Elsa DeLong Mrs Melissa Felton and Mrs Cecil Schrodt who led the short program. Social hour featured date cake Ritz crackers cheese spread and coffee served by Mrs Glen VanDorin and Mrs Wayne McDanel. Thirty one attended.

Republican John Kyl 40, a Bloomfield clothier, is the party nominee for the December 15 special congressional election after narrowly losing the last general race to the late Steven Carter. Democratic nominee C Edwin Gilmour, born September 15 1918 in Bairsville PA, has a long public service and teaching background, and will campaign full time through December 15 with stops in Centerville and Appanoose County on December 7.
The Christian Women's Fellowship group met Thursday afternoon with Mrs Birdie Main. Mrs Maude Coltrain led the business meeting. Mrs Main led devotions and Miss Clara Ire lan led the study titled Town and Country Churches.
Franklin by Mrs Earl Swift details social visits and gatherings as local residents spend time at homes, banquets, funerals, and hospital stays. Names include James Calhoun, Constance Thompson, Neva Richards, Freda Swift, and others across Albia Ottumwa Emmett Derby Lee Benz and Ken Eckwall among noted events and family connections.
Mr and Mrs Carl Merkcle welcome a son Daniel born last week weighing six pounds. He has three brothers and a sister. Several local residents visited and assisted with family events, outings, and errands including Hiatts, Argo, Boblenz, Lemaster, Mericle, and Miller households. Local trips included Des Moines and Fairfield.
Dell Birs H B Spring Rev and Mrs Hinegardner and Mrs Silas Mathias were guests at Alvin Spring home for a pheasant supper Tuesday evening. Major Dale Stuckey and Mrs Josie Struckey visited Des Moines and the Jerry Stark family Thursday. Mrs Joe Moore and Linda spent Friday and Thursday night at Alvin Spring home. Lillian Sprouse visits Pervis Hedgecock and Oren Starr homes. Dewey Houser and Merle Houser family hosted Sunday visitations.
A sequence of social visits and church activities in Unionville area households is reported. Many residents including Susie Moore, Sherry Spring, Martha Glasgow, and Rita Stuckey are mentioned with visitors from Centerville, Altus, and nearby towns.
