New Naval Reserve Rules Allow Youths 17 to 31 Enlist
Under the National Reserve Act of August 10, 1955 youths aged 17 to 31 may join the Naval Air Reserve with only two years of active duty in a six year obligation. The rest is served in the ready and stand by reserves. Part of the reserve duty may be completed before active duty for those under 18 but past 17. If still in school, active duty can be delayed until graduation or age 20. Ready reserve includes monthly drills with pay and credits, plus 14 consecutive training days yearly. Men aged 17 to 31 meeting current reserve standards may enlist if not ordered for induction under Universal Training and Service Act.
