Auto Fatality In Snowstorm Kills Centerville Man

In a heavy early fall snowstorm on Thursday about 5 30 p m John McCullough 72 of Centerville was killed in an auto accident at the Moravia Phillips 68 service station He was en route from Des Moines to Centerville and after passing cars on the roadway swung back to the right side then left the pavement struck a parked GMC grain trailer causing the truck to lose its rear dual wheels The car bounced back and McCullough who was crushed by the steering wheel died almost instantly Dr Aveta who stopped at the scene pronounced him dead Turner Funeral Home ambulance arrived and Centerville and Eagle funeral home at Moulton prepared the body Services were held Sunday at Moulton Mr McCullough a retired barber who had shops in Moulton and Centerville

Randy Woodward Reeled In Home Fall Injury

Three year old Randy Woodward reeled in a fall at home injuring his left leg. The leg had been broken on August 10 when he was struck by a panel truck backing by his father. He is in traction at Monroe County Hospital Albia and will later have a cast. Funeral attendees for John Albert McCullough included Rev E J Strang and Woodward family members.

Local residents hosted and attended social events through Friday to Sunday. Karla Reno Myra Turner and Susan Raymie joined Julie Charity for a seventh birthday celebration. Various guests, including Spencer King Elder Mervin Ellison and others, enjoyed dinners films slides and a Hawaii trip presentation. Saturday supper included Windy Lockman and Robin Spencer with Unionville hosts. Girl Scout Halloween party attendance followed. Additional calls and visits from Omahas Sylvia Hiatt and other neighbors rounded out the weekend social calendar with visits to the Woodward Hinds and family hosting trips to Lewisburg and Leavenworth.

Cub Scout Pack 40 Holds Snowbound Meeting

Fifty four attendees gathered at the Methodist church basement for Cub Scout Pack 40 on October 26. Oliver Brownlee awarded Neal Wilson, Marty Massman, and Russell Peterson while denner candidates were named. Webelos and Rev T D Hersey demonstrated woodworking and a shadow box emblem as dens two and three performed Indian themed skits before closing with Indian signs and a game.

EUB Plans Dedication Of New Organ Sunday

The Evangelical United Brethren church will dedicate its new Hammond organ during worship at 11 a.m. Sunday in memory of G. P. Gus Main. Relatives from Kansas City Albia Des Moines and possibly Denver will attend along with local residents for special organ and vocal selections.

CROP Drive Planned for Appanoose County Churches

The Appanoose County CROP project organized by the County Council of Churches names Rev Herbert Zeihler as program director. County chairmen are David Koehler Udell and Joe Sherrard Plano with area supervisors to be chosen. A kick-off is set for the Presbyterian Church Centerville at 7:30 p.m. on Nov 9, followed by CROP Sunday Nov 12 for county churches.

Cecill O Conner born Aug 3 1894 near Centerville died Oct 28 1987 at University Hospital Town City age 73.2. Her husband Frank survives with five children Marjorie Paxston Manfila Boyer Enid Walker Kenneth Norris. Also three sisters and three brothers survive. Funeral held at First Baptist Centerville with Rev Thrash. Burial Haynes Cemetery. Many from distance attended. Funeral attendees offered thanks for kindnesses and prayers.
