In warm weather the house fly Musca domestica spreads rapidly, laying 120 to 150 eggs per female and producing millions of offspring in summer. Flies breed in garbage, manure, and decaying matter, transmitting typhoid fever, diphtheria, and tuberculosis. Preventive steps include removing manure within ten days, burying or burning garbage, keeping food covered, screening houses, and destroying early breeding spots.

Marshall Drake visited the Clarence Irelan home Sunday. Dorothy McDowell and Anna Filey called on Eunice Leffler Friday. Tom Drake and wife shopped in Unionville Wednesday. W T Irelan and son Gerald visited C Trelany on Sunday. John Herteen and family Bert Drake and family spent the day at Tom Drake's. Elvin Stocker family shopped in Blakesburg Friday. Myrthe Kingery visited Mrs Hertha Stocker Wednesday. G W Trelan and Clara dined with Elvin Stocker. Fred Moss left Tuesday for a two week California visit. Miss Clara Irelan helped Mrs Mabel Irelan briefly this week.
The 4-H Club met with Maxine Tisue on Thursday and many locals visited relatives and friends over the weekend. Several birthdays were celebrated including Merla’s, Uncle Lyman Main’s 80th, and John William McAninch. Church events and plays at the Methodist Church were noted, with many attendees and invitations extended for Sunday services.
Mr and Mrs Ben Whitehead took Donald to the hospital in Oskaleosh Saturday. Farm Bureau meeting attended by Mr and Mrs Pearl Kelsey at Center ville. Iconium Troop scored 49 points at a Scout contest in Centerville last Friday. Attendees included Bert Nash James and Donald W C Coulson and son Clell Jay Massman and son Richard Floyd Hiner Tarbell Brothers Jack Penfield L H Priebe and sons Clark and Kenneth Troy Adams Pearl Kelsey Rev and Mrs J W Zerbe Jay Argo Guy Roy and John McAninch Rev W R Mataler gave Memorial sermon at Christian Church Sunday. The Boy Scouts were mentioned.
Miss Leora Eatlack visits, Miss Florence Shaw hosts a surprise in Albia, and families visit Hilton residents. The Ladies Aid gathers at Mrs. Earl Spencer, ministers work on the Weasley Foundation, and a young people's social features talks on Pep Ideals and Prayer. Community singing, guitar and harmonica selections, and refreshments enrich the Grange Hall event. Children’s Day plans advance as Rev W J Todd schedules a service at Hilton.
