Snowy white squirrel in Moravia draws big interest as locals describe it as the whitest seen in years. Johnnie Whicker recalls a white squirrel in the parks long ago while concerns about government integrity rise after Watergate scandals and taxpayer funded relationships.
Reports allege many Washington offices are filled by payroll personnel with little to no qualifications. Defeated politicians secure lucrative party appointments, prolonging government payrolls. Taxpayers note lengthy annual legislative sessions and protracted debates while salaries rise quickly.
A Moravia Union letter complains about Hillcrest Cemetery rules restricting peonies on graves. The writer laments cutting flowers and mowing near stones, noting artificial blooms and grave maintenance hurt real peonies and bare ground where blooms once grew.
Jennie Puther writes from Runnells Iowa expressing sorrow over a grave on which she claims land ownership via a lot purchase. She offers to help financially if someone takes proper action but notes uncertainty about overseeing authority. She mentions visiting two or three times a year and the memory of placing a geranium beside the stone.

Time changes: 8:30 am worship at Grace, 9:30 am church school at Grace and Salem, 10:30 am worship at Salem. Men’s Breakfast Bible Study 6:30 am Wednesday at Grace. Bible Study and Prayer 7:00 pm Wednesday at Salem. Vacation Bible School May 27 and 28 and June 14 9:00 am to 1:30 pm daily at Moravia Elementary School.
Memorial Day Sunday services at Leonium United Methodist Church feature Rev L B Deedrick and Pastor Donald Whitehead with a 9 30 am worship service, 10 30 am Sunday School, 7 pm Adult Bible Class and Youth Fellowship, 7 pm Children’s Service. Attendees are invited to join and hear a Bible centered Memorial Day message.
Miss Julie Bales of Des Moines called on Amy Hiner Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Lloyd Brown hosted Mrs. Carl Van Zante in Moravia for MHS Swing events. Clarence Whitehead and Sybil Argo visited Truxton Dicks and celebrated a birthday with Zent. Numerous calls and visits occurred across Moravia Centerville and area.
Local social notes recount visits and gatherings around Vosburg and nearby towns. Names include Clarence Whitehead Sibyl Argo Mina Williams Pearl Crow Delbert Calhoun Roy Argo and Grant School in Albia with various guests and Friday evening visits.
Mrs Don Whitehead entertained Monday evening with Bareer and Mrs Edward Haver. Mr and Mrs Tim Seals hosted a Tuesday event in Moravia. Mrs Tim Seals attended with Mrs Lloyd Brown, a wag in Can.
Lori spent Friday night through Saturday at the Eldon Huedepohi home in South Amana. Saturday guests at the Russell Brown home included Emily Howie Dollie Gilliland and Fern Callen. Grace Whitehead visited Truxton Dicks’ house Saturday afternoon. Edith Callen and Mr and Mrs Wayne Ghiisty and Carol attended Saturday evening at Stanley Spencer’s home. Mina Williams Lucy Laws spent Saturday afternoon with Paulite Dicks. A gathering at Roy Argd’s home featured Mr and Mrs Max Marshall and family, Mr and Mrs Frank Schmidt of Des Moines and Ankény. Sunday dinner at Roy Messamaker’s included Mr and Mrs Jim Rees and family, Mr and Mrs Mike Brunt Myers and family, and Mr and Mrs Doug Messanitker family. Mr and Mrs B F Whitehead visited Larry Whitehead’s home in West Des Moines. Truxton Dicks and Lloyd Brown hosted Sunday dinner at the Blue Grass Inn Chariton. Mr and Mrs Lloyd Johnson and Marie Van Weelden were noted as Sunday attendees.
Sunday guests included Mr and Mrs Kenneth Rinehart at the Ray Rinehart home and Mr and Mrs Russell Brown. Mildred Argo hosted Sunday dinner with Russell Brown calling on Roscoe Argo Monday evening. Paul Dicks and DeWayne Moore joined Monday supper at the Ray Argo home. Clara Brown visited Velda Brown Monday afternoon.
Senior citizens meals schedule lists no dinner on Monday May 31 and includes meals on Wednesday June 2 with meatloaf mashed potatoes green beans salad and dessert and Friday June 4 with potluck records show misspellings and irregular formatting but indicate meal plan details for local seniors.
