Piano from Ida Easley to be shown in Moravia Homes Tour
A piano purchased about 1880 by Ida Lou Easley will be featured Sunday June 6 in the Moravia Bicentennial Tour of Homes at Mrs. Gail Tuttle’s east Moravia residence. The instrument, once moved to Montana in 1915, returned in 1970 and remains in good condition. The Tuttle home began as a three story hospital built by Dr. Whitwolf, later remodeled by Gearharts and Schreiner, with little modern change by the Tuttles. The tour will include Mrs. Tuttle’s collectibles and their histories, with more information in the Moravia Union.

Twin Cedars and Trail reach tourney finals in girls softball
In last week’s tourney finals Twin Cedars and Mormon Trail advanced to the finals while Moravia and Wayne were runners-up. Finals were rained out Saturday. Moravia defeated Cardinal Eldon 6-3 in the Moravia opener, with a 7th inning rally. Karla Van Hall earned her 87th career win as Twin Cedars beat Moravia 14-0 Thursday. Moravia’s Sheri Easter pitched. Peg McBride caught.

The Moravia Garden Club met May 26 at Mrs. David Harris home with co host Mrs. Ed Nelson. Janat Fox will head a downtown flower placement committee for the bicentennial and Moravia Florist owners will assist. Members urge citizens to fly flags for the nations 200th birthday. Gladys Harsh delivered 140 seed packages to Pella for Iowa's sister state in Mexico Yucatan. The club memorializes Nellie Wilhames and promotes a June 4 event at Moravia High School from 1 to 4 PM titled We've Only Just Begun a fidger show and birthday party.

In a Tuesday night boys' Little League clash the Astros beat the Colts 14 to 11. Astros pitchers Chris Grinstead and Brian Allen combined for 11 strikeouts while Mark Wilson and Todd Pringle started for the Colts. Key hits included John Pettibone and Marty Brown for the Astros and Jim Kaster and Rod Witt for the Colts. Standings show all three teams, Astros Colts and Lakers, at 1-1. Moravia high school boys baseball opened with a 12-2 defeat to Wayne Community in Corydon on May 25. Clay Ubien hake hit a third inning homer as Wayne exploded for nine runs in the first. A 15-3 loss followed May 28 to S E Warren at home, with Moravia fouling away the lead by top of the fourth as Warren plated seven runs. Coach Roos cited mental and fielding errors as the key issue in the setback.
