Florence Dicks hosted the Clover Leaf club at her home on May 16 for a cooperative dinner. Members and visitors included Fern Penfield Mildred Terbell Verda Argo Roy Ernestine Donnie Gerald and Vicki Argo Edith and Gilbert Callen Glenna and Trux ton Dicks Phyllis Paul Nicky and Fonda Dicks Leo and Kenneth Hoffman Clyde Dicks and guests Mabel Jan and Russell Moore. Day’s work was selecting nut meats. Traveling bingo yielded gifts. Next meeting is June 20 with Mabel Moors. Club picnic set for June 3 at Centerville park.
The Happy Helpers 4 H club met May 17 at Mrs. Loren Hardinger home Albia for a Better Grooming contest judged by Mrs. Hardinger. Martha Potts named Senior Better Groomed Girl and Mary Mosley named Sunior Better Groomed Girl. Afterward members met at Martha Potts home for a weiner roast. The evening included roll call on colors they look best in with ten members answering. The club donated to IFYE and Mary Lou Rinehart and Mary Mosley were selected to represent the club at Lake Aquahbi camp this year. Janice Mosley chosen as candidate for a county office. Delegates named Janet Nash and Mary Mosley. Charlotte Mc Aninch to give campaign speech Rosalie Sneeden to state convention delegate. New member Nancy Gardner. Meeting closed with pledges to 4 H and American flags. Attendees listed.
Primary election set for Monday June 4 1956 at twenty eight polling places in Appanoose County Iowa to nominate candidates for state county and township offices. Delegates to county convention to be held in Centerville June 29 1956 with Republican and Democratic representation numbers listed.
Wesley Bible school started this week with 25 of the younger people enrolled and the older group will begin their classes next week. Six M.Y.F. young helpers and six teachers, plus Rev. Doggett, are assisting. Wesley M.Y.F. met Wednesday at the church and cookies and pop were served. W. S. C. S. met Thursday with devotions led by Mrs. Hiatt and refreshments by Doris Boblenz and Elsie Callen. Various locals visited and hosted at several homes including the Long, Feeley, Donovan, and Hiatt households. many portions of Sunday were spent in visits and well wishes.
Maintenance fund entries list payments to American Standard Corporation for supplies and to Appanoose County Tele Co for services. Items include labor and materials for Bradley Lawrence. repairs and equipment for Herman M Brown Service Co. Bryant Tire and Battery for equipment and repairs. Carmer Motor Co for equipment, repairs, and a separate entry with a small amount.
