The Rathbun junction crew moved to a site west of the Hilton church this week and plans soon to begin paving from Albia south to the Hilton church. Local workers face daily trips to Albia or Centerville during this lengthy disruption, hoping normal north south paving resumes in a couple of weeks.
The town opens westbound traffic after paving work and delays on the railroad crossing. Community officials anticipate extensive development plans for Moravia with potential lake area spending and improved street conditions. locals urge proactive cooperation to cultivate and advance these projects and attract funding.
Wesley Chapel UMW gathered at Edrie Phillips home on Thursday May 15 with seven members present. Flora Hiatt opened with worship and roll call on Bible heroes. Reports from Hedrick district meeting attendees noted a lovely day and included a pantomime by Flora and Doris with Eva reading the 23rd Psalm. The group also learned of the Spring meeting and enjoyed the May Fellowship Day activities.
Eight church members attended a May 2 Salem gathering that featured a meaningful worship service, a style show, and a health care lesson by Evelyn on Health Care for the Whole Person. Eddie served a spring salad with crackers and punch, with Doris, Edith, Mae, Helen, Eva, Flora, and hostess Edrie present.
Tomyall VanAntwerp visited friends Tom and Danny Manning for a night. A May 15 gathering at Hallie Doggett farm planned planting 65 acres of beans. Hallie recovering from an operation. Helpers listed include Olan Adams Gerald Staley Kermit Staley Ray Kershemer David Moore ard Moore Claude Lowe Dan Whisler Kenneth Free Dale VerSteegt Gerald Ballanger. Women helpers named include Juanita Staley Clela elping Delores Ber Martha Xratzer Willadine Erma Jacobs Letha Morris Mildred Larhart Anna Burkland Kathleen Adams Mr and Mrs Howard Burkland.
Ruby Hedgecock called of Alice Simms one day last week. Mr and Mrs Purvis Hedgecock were at Humeston Monday.
Doris Boblenz and Doris Tucker attended the Mother and Daughter banquet at Christian Church in Albia hosted by Mrs. Ernest Van Coulson and Mrs. Doris Van. Eva Tucker joined Connie Belzer, while Elizabeth Anderson visited her mother Jessie Milles. Mr and Mrs Herbert McDanel spent Tuesday evening with Mr and Mrs Ernest Hiatt. Ernest West with his parents.
Mrs. Ernest Hiatt attended the Freeborn and Strickler wedding Friday evening in Centerville. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Shobers called at Herb Bobien. Frances Burton returned home Saturday afternoon after spending the winter with her children. Leo West Jerald Bates and Raymond Gilliland with their spouses spent Friday evening at the Ernest West home.
