Garden planting guide for vegetables and tools
Tender vegetables to plant now include bush and pole beans lima beans edible soy beans and sweet corn. After May 16 plant cucumbers muskmelons tomatoes squash pumpkins eggplant and peppers. Sow only a fraction of bush beans and sweet corn at first and repeat every 10 to 15 days until July 16. Protect new transplants from wind with tiles boxes or other objects, then remove protectors after recovery. Cultivate between rows and keep weeds down with a rake. For pole beans provide a stake of at least 7 feet or a tall sunflower as a climbing aid. Begin sowing pole beans at the base of each plant as sunflowers grow. Maintain sharp hoes and sharpen hoes regularly for ease of weeding. Avoid hilling light soils to prevent higher temperatures and reduced potato yields. on heavy soils slope soil gently toward the row center to shed water.

Wet grass hopper bait mix for pest control on crops
Twenty pounds of wet grass hopper bait will cover an acre. Thin bait is made with 10 pounds wheat bran, 4 percent Paris green or sodium fluosilicate, 1 pint molasses, sorghum or corn syrup, and 2 to 4 quarts water. Bait should be moist but not wet and should separate into flakes when thrown. Using poultry feeds very low in protein delays growth and egg production.
