Enon correspondent Mrs. J T VanDorin notes Moravia high school’s 21st consecutive commencement on Tuesday April 26. Dick Johnson, son of Mr and Mrs John Johnson, graduated after 12 years with perfect attendance. The Union staff adopted an eight hour day as David leaves school and distribution hours shift accordingly.

Moravia Residents Collect Over 200 Pounds of Cans
In Moravia on April 28 more than 200 pounds of tin cans were gathered and stored at the community building for county collection. Mrs. C. M. McFatridge notes improved salvage quality with ends removed and flattened cans. Local students from Moravia Public School contributed most of the cans while teachers and families prepare for future drives. Households are urged to assist as funds fund war bonds and morale grows.

Moravia Delays Mayor Vacancy As Palmer Declines
Moravia remains without a mayor after the council appointed W. L. Palmer to fill the vacancy caused by Dr. D. K. Orelup resigning on April 6. Palmer declined the post, while Dr. L. M. Williams was named health officer and G. G. Peterson hired as band director for the upcoming season ending at the Fall Festival.

Moravia Band to Hold First Rehearsal This Spring
Moravia will begin steps toward a summer band with a rehearsal at 7 30 p m Saturday May 18 in the public school music room. G G Peterson director said the group draws from the high school senior band and junior band. Beginners for viola bass horn trombone and cornet have been obtained. Junior high and freshmen pupils with high rhythm and pitch ratings will be invited to start instrumental work.

Mrs. Leonard Palmer and Mrs. D. B. Bishop attended the morning and afternoon sessions of the 88th district Rebekah convention in Albia on Tuesday. State President Ruth Hamblin and past state president Mae Welsh were at the event. Centerville lodge led the initiatory work Tuesday night, as Fern Wright and Dana Wright visited in Moulton. Myra Wright and family moved back to Moulton after winter in Kansas City. Flora Jones Donna Wailes and Charles Coffin called on Walter Gideon at St Joseph’s hospital in Centerville. Roger Gideon is spending several days at the hospital with him. Mr. and Mrs. Murdy visited their son near town. Bruce Gardner visited with his parents Roy and Mrs Gardner at West Chester. Sidney Helms returned to Avon Lake after visiting his daughter. J W Halden was summoned to Centerville for his niece Mrs B S Staley. The Day couple moved into a home purchased from A M Smith. War savings bond sales at the Moravia post office surged in April to 9 new highs with a total of 12356.25 in freedom securities, plus 332.90 in war stamps. Postmaster J D Minnes credited local students and faculty for strong support and noted one day alone saw 2648.75 spent on bonds and stamps. Bond purchases included 83 at 25, 24 at 50, 67 at 100, seven at 500, and four at 1000.
