A weekly county paper discusses a proposed 13 cent per ounce air mail rate touching local mail from utilities and businesses, plus confusion over detours near Rathbun Lake as travelers faced closed signs and tricky turns before enjoying camping and boating. The piece hopes for better access by Memorial Day weekend.
The fifth graders hosted a party in their room Monday with teacher Delmar Dowd and students decorating with streamers and posters. They staged a pink and blue shower for Mrs. Paul Tapper, with refreshments and gifts. Dowd mused on his expertise and joked about future involvement.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Brown and others attended the Rathbun Country Music Show Saturday evening. Mrs Jake Firkins visited her brothers Denny and Eugene Argo. Amy Hiner spent Friday afternoon with Mrs Velma Milburn at Centerville. A group including Mark Allen and Brian, and several Browns and Heliyers, were in Centerville Saturday. Lloyd Brown and family visited Ottumwa Sunday to watch grandsons at the State Junior Olympic track meet. They are from Fillshore school in Cedar Rapids, sponsored by Chevrolet. Glen Wakefield and his brother-in-law visited Edward Haver Sunday. Mrs Lloyd Brown and others attended the May Fellowship meeting at Salem Methodist.
The Moravia church gathering Friday afternoon, with extended visits by Mr and Mrs James McCord and family from Galesburg Illinois. Mrs Edward McCord helped at Orville McCord’s home for a newborn granddaughter born May 3. Bobby Whitehead visited relatives, Julie Haver and Steve Huff attended the Moravia High Prom, and several Whitehead family members visited Centerville and Roscoe Argo.
