Mayor Keith Chelsing signed May 3 9 1976 as Kiss Your Baby Week to raise awareness of cystic fibrosis in Iowa. The deficiency, a recessive gene disease, shows signs including salty skin taste, wheezing, persistent cough, frequent pneumonia, greasy stools, and nasal polyps. Virgil Johnson 70 Dies After Stroke in Albia Area
Virgil Johnson 70 died Wednesday at Monroe County Hospital after a six day stay. He suffered a stroke Friday at Albia Manor where he lived. Born November 13 1905 in Monroe County he worked as a mail and freight delivery man. Survived by widow Velma Selby Johnson two daughters Beatrice Jones Mentor Ohio and Margaret McClurg Moravia six grandchildren two great grandchildren a brother Wilbert Johnson Ottumwa and four sisters Alma Davis Davenport Barbara Robinson Moravia Bernice Derby Albia Wanda Johnson Charlton. Funeral services were held Saturday at Turner Funeral Home with Rev Laverne Leigh officiating. Burial in Moravia Hillcrest Cemetery.
