Ragan-White Vows Repeated Sunday

Miss Shirley Ragan daughter of Mr and Mrs Cleo Ragan of Moravia and Lonnie White son of Mr and Mrs James White of Rockford were married in the West Des Moines Methodist church at 7 00 p m Saturday April 30 The single ring ceremony was in the presence of the couple s immediate families Attendants were the grooms brother in law and sister Mr and Mrs Buckingham of Des Moines The bride wore a white dress with white accessories and a carriage of white roses They will reside at 2224 East Grand in Des Moines Mr and Mrs Ragan and son Billy and Mrs Catherine Teller attended the wedding Taylor Aid plans a cooperative dinner May 11 with Anna Hiatt

Alumni Picnic Plans for Memorial Day Monday May 30

Mrs Virgil Dooley and Mrs Theo Miller met with Mrs Garnet McDonough to finalize plans for the alumni picnic to be held at Mon travia Park on Memorial Day Monday May 30. A cooperative meal is planned for 12 30 with rain contingency at the Legion Post home. The change from fall to Memorial Day was voted at last year's meeting. Mrs Clarence Whitehead serves on the arrangements committee but could not attend.

Moravia school band and girls glee clubs travel to Keota on Saturday for a band and glee club contest led by music instructor Mr. Bill Jesse.

Martin Dicks Nuptial Vows Repeated at Iconium Church

Joyce Martin and Donald Dicks wed at The Methodist church in Iconium in a 2 PM ceremony. Rev Banks Doggett officiated as guests heard nuptial music and the couple exchanged vows. A reception followed, with aqua and yellow decorations and a four tier cake. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Max Martin of Moravia, wore a lace gown. the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Truxon Dicks of Iconium. Post ceremony plans include a short wedding trip and the couple will reside in Centerville where the bride works at Town Southern Utilities. Family and friends from Moravia, Centerville, Chariton, Mystic, Fort Madison and other towns attended.

Scouts Have First Overnight Hike Experience

Eighteen boy scouts and their leaders had their first overnight hike as a unit. They hiked three miles east of town, cooked supper, and held a ceremonial campfire before returning for Sunday School. The Moravia troop plans to participate in the county camporee at the Russell Brown farm northwest of Ionia on May 14 and 15.

Seniors Head to Lake of the Ozarks Trip

Moravia high school senior class departs Sunday for a three day trip to the Lake of the Ozarks. Cars driven by Vernon Thorsen Gilbert Sargent Charles Turner and Jack Wilson with chaperons Mrs Thorsen and Mrs Sargent. They plan to return Tuesday evening.

Twentieth Century Club Meets With Mrs Coffin

The Twentieth Century club met Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Charles Coffin. Fourteen members answered roll call with a household hint. Mrs. Harry Glick led the program and conducted a quiz on U S points of interest and sports. Readings were recited by Mrs. C W Craver and Mrs. Glick. Mrs. Louis Schaffner, moving soon to Seymour, received a club gift.

Two Moravia students, Charles Turner and Marianne Scott, top the 1955 graduating class. Turner earns valedictorian honors with a 96.2 four year average, while Scott is salutatorian with a 92.6 four year average. Joyce Brain and John Brown tie for third with 91.6 averages. Mr and Mrs Lester Sawvel sold their Mora property via to Mr and Mrs Freeman Johnson of Albia. The Johnsons will take possession June 1. The Sawvel family plans are not complete at this time.

Mr and Mrs Marshall Perry of Albia have purchased the late W C Bivin property in the east part of town. They plan to move to their new home about the first of June. They formerly lived near Blakesburg.

Polio Shots Given to 42 Youngsters

Forty two first and second grade students visited Dr L M Williams office for Saik polio injections Wednesday. There was little distress as needles were sterilized and comfort given. Each child received a prescription for one ice cream cone to follow the shot.

Goode Elevator Co Holds Open House for Anniversary

The Goode Mill and Elevator at Albia observes its first anniversary with an open house Saturday. Visitors can tour the new, modern elevator, see feed manufacturing in operation, and enjoy refreshments, prizes, gifts for ladies, and treats for children. Double Shower Honors Brides To Be In Albia

A double miscellaneous shower was held Saturday at the Kendall place in Albia honoring Miss Beverly Fenton and Mrs. Sarah Ann Baird. Weddings are planned for June with Fenton to wed Jerry McFall and Baird to wed Jack Hindman. Moravia guests included several local women who helped with games and table decorations.

Mrs Kendall of Davenport Hurt in Fall

Mrs Lizzie Kendall aged over 90 of Davenport fractured her hip in a fall at a nursing home Friday. She was taken to Mercy hospital where doctors pinned the hip and she is recovering. She formerly lived in Moravia and has many friends there.

Mrs Van Dorin Burned Lighting Gas Stove

Mrs J T VanDorin sustained facial and arm burns when she tried to light a gas stove that had been lit minutes earlier. The injuries were painful but not serious.
