About 1200 high school music students and staff will converge in Moravia for the state music contest. Vocal events are at the elementary building and the band contest at the high school. Sessions are open to the public with no admission charge.

Band Mothers Club hosts lunch in two school buildings on May fifth with music in the air. Elementary and high school attendees are invited to enjoy meals before or after the performances.
Dr and Mrs Vern Newcomb and daughter of Kanana City spent the weekend with her father W V Mirdy and sister, Mr and Mrs Leonard Palmer. Mrs Harry Stocker and Mrs Wilbur Remmeth attended a wedding at 11 a m Saturday at the Catholic church in Moline. Leonard Clair, employed in Connecticut at Chamberlain South Dakota, spent the weekend here with his parents Mr and Mrs Fred Callen.

Moravia high baseball team earned two decisive wins with Ed Oehler pitching in a 11-1 victory at Logilla and Todd Harp delivering 18 strikeouts in an 8-1 win over Seymour. Upcoming games include Blakesburg, a Cen terville Junior College practice, and a Friday matchup with Fremont.
A large group from the Women’s Society of Christian Service at Grace Methodist church attended a pre nuptial shower for Janet Dixon, a rural church worker from Appanoose county, held Friday at Centerville Methodist. The serving and gift tables were beautifully decorated. Attendees from Moravia included Mina Doyle, Ing Miller, Donald Dowd, Mearl Walter, Frank Wilson, Gerald Morgan, Leonard Palmer, George Winsler, Rowena McFatridge, Earl Tuttle, D E Bishop, B. C. Leard, Howard Smith, Weldon Whitack, Harold Hudgens, Norman Ward, Lee Hiatt, Bert Turner, Carl Black, Clarence Johnson, John Veach, Ron Woodward, Janet Dixon and Delmar Dowd plan a summer.
The Twentieth Century Reading Club gathered Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Frank Rogers home with Mrs. Harley Tisue presiding. Members answered roll call by naming a good book read recently. Mrs. Ted Campbell shared insights on notable Iowa authors and their works. Mrs. Rogers reported her winter and spring trip to Portland Oregon and related sights.
A group of youth fellowship counselors and others attended the youths rally Sunday afternoon and evening at the Evangelical United Brethren church in Chariton. Evening services were canceled at the Moravia church. Mrs. James McGuire of Barrington New Jersey arrived Tuesday to visit her mother Mrs. John Dodd and nephew Bill Wilson and family.
Moravia residents are urged to place cans and rubbish in edge of street containers for town pickup. Ashes and brush will not be hauled. Rubbish should be dumped in the pits at the town dumping grounds one mile south on the Hiattville road to preserve them for reuse.
The Iowa Trust and Savings Bank announces new hours starting this week. Open Thursday afternoons and close Saturday afternoons. Weekday hours are 9:00 to 2:00 Monday through Friday and 9:00 to 12:00 Saturdays, following the Centerville parent bank.
Attorney Richard Smith will serve as master of ceremonies at the dedication for the Wildlife Research and Exhibit Station near Boone Sunday afternoon. The program starts at 2:30 p.m. with Boone Municipal Band music and Governor Ethel to give the State of Iowa speech of acceptance. State Conservation Commission officials including Commissioner Sherry Fisher and Director Glen G. Powers will appear. Mr and Mrs Howard Smith plan weekend visits to the Richard Smith home in Boone.
Rev J A Ogden pastor of the Moravia church is in Cedar Rapids for the Evangelical United Brethren in Iowa annual conference. He attends May 2 sessions as part of a delegation from Moravia.
Charles Argo, a junior at Central College in Pella, will serve as treasurer of the Student Cabinet for the 1982 83 term. He will work with Paul Aykens of Steen Minnesota, elected president, the top student office on campus.
Honor students Diane Pearson Madelyn Sinclair Larry Grinstead and others show high marks with several 90s. Notable names include Karen Warren Steve Tarbell Joyce McCoy Larry Mullins Nancy Tomlin and many honorees listed. Awarded honorable mentions span numerous students across the grades.
Grace Methodist Church and Wesley Chapel outline weekly worship. Sunday services include morning worship and Adoption sermon at 10:60, MYF events at Astonville Unionville and Moravia, with Sunday School at 9:00 or 10:00. May 7th quarter conference supper. May 10th commission workshops and training for new year. parsonage committee meeting Tuesday and MYF rallies in the West Central Sub district.
Rev J A Odnen and Carl Van Zante announce Sunday School at 10 a m with a class for everyone and morning worship at 11. The Sunshine choir leads a 7 30 p m service with Junior and Senior F meetings. Family night is Wednesday May 5 at 2 30 p m. The Young Adult Sunday School class conducts the program. W S W S meets Friday May 11 at 8 30 p m with Mrs Lilian Ogden hosting and Mrs Ethel Van Dorin presenting the lesson.
Reverend H LaVern Smith leads at 10 morning Sunday school with Frank Woodward as Sunday school superintendent. Morning worship at 11, Youth with the Truth at 7, NTF and Juniors at 1 45 pm. Evening evangelistic with gingspiration at 7 30. Hour of Prayer Wednesday at 8 30, choir practice.
Moravia Rebekah lodge met with Charity presiding to plan attendance at the district convention in Moulton on Tuesday May 15. The local lodge will present the Memorial during the gathering.
A letter from the Women’s Division of the Christian Service of the Methodist Church states Miss Maridee Hunter of Gowrie Iowa has been assigned as a county summer worker. She will aid Vacation Church Schools across Apparloose County and serve as a counselor at Junior High Camp No 1. She arrives June 10 and will stay in area homes under the Town and Country Summer Service Program.
Funeral services were held at the Moravia Methodist church for Ramona Cox daughter of Burdett and family of near Unionville. She died in Des Moines from a knife wound in an apartment incident. Police and federal agents sought the assailant with no success by noon Wednesday. Ramona, born December 7 1937, was a Moravia High School graduate 1956 and longtime employee in Des Moines. She is survived by her parents a sister two brothers and several grandparents and relatives. Interment followed at Hillcrest cemetery.
Moravia organizes a Babe Ruth baseball team with Albia Bussey and Louisa as opponents. First game 3:00 PM May 30 at Albia, home games 5:30 PM June 1 6 20 22 27 29 and July 18 20, away games May 30 June 7 Ath 15 July 4 6 7 18. Current players listed and coaches William Woodward and Larry Brooks. First practice at elementary school 5:45 tonight. more ages 13 15 invited.
Past Matrons gathered Tuesday evening at Mrs. Bertha Broshar’s home for their regular meeting with Mrs. John Johnson assisting as hostess. A social evening followed with refreshments of orange salad Ritz crackers and coffee served.
Pella prepares a 27th Tulip Time Festival with six parades across May 10 to 12. Local bands from Pella Christian, Pella Community, and Central College All-Brass join out-of-town groups including Knoxville, St, Grinnell, Valley, Waukee, Oskaloosa, and more. Final plans completed. tulips on schedule.
Mrs. Grant Tadlock expresses heartfelt thanks for the kindness shown since her accident. She notes that cards letters and personal calls provided great comfort and asks everyone to accept her sincere gratitude.

Mr and Mrs Virgil Kaster received word of the death of their cousin Mrs Doyle Kaster 51 of 335 G Pacific Ave Alameda California She suffered a heart attack Easter Sunday but was apparently recovering Funeral services were held Tuesday May 1 in Oakland California
Mr. Fred Stone of Kirksville Mo has been hired by the Moravia school board as elementary school principal for the coming term. He is married with two children. Stone taught two years at Vandalia junior high and is now attending Northeast Missouri State Teachers College.
The car and truck safety check will be held on the east side of Moravia square from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday May 10. Sheriff Paul Thomas and local and county police, Highway Patrol, and radar speed checks will assess mechanical safety and speedometer accuracy. No tickets issued. the event, sponsored by the National Safety Council, promotes seat belt installation and road safety awareness.
Mrs Zell Callen presided at a Moravia Garden Club gathering with the collect read and roll call naming favorite wildflowers. Reports from department secretaries and therapy chair, plans for an April 28 plant sale, school grounds landscaping, and a May 22 district flower show at Boone were discussed.

Miss Cynthia Taylor slowly improves after a heart attack experienced early Sunday. Her sisters Mrs. Jim Hays of Blakesburg and Mrs. Else Delong assist Miss Zula Taylor in caring for her.
