Des Moines youth work leader Rev Lewis E Crase to deliver the commencement address on Tuesday evening May 15. He has guided University Christian church youth and now serves as minister of education at College Avenue Christian church. He sits on the state youth committee and directs camps and conferences and serves on Des Moines recreation commission.

Lightning Rips Russell Burns Home In Night Intrusion

At about 2 00 am a lightning strike shattered the Burns residence injuring no one. Russell Burns and his son Jimmy slept through the upheaval as a bolt blasted a wall, moved a bed, and knocked out lights. Plaster flew, windows shattered, and trees along the yard suffered bark damage, but no fire occurred. The yard light and barnyard lamp were found on the ground.

Graduation Time Draws Near For Local School

School activities reach a climax in the last two weeks of the 55 56 school year. Thirty eight seniors attend final full week with baccalaureate at the Methodist church on May 18. Commencement is May 15 at the school gym with Rev. Crase delivering the address. Senior chapel and awards follow on May 14. May 17 is a half day with buses leaving at 12 20. The band plans a party after lunch.

Moravia Garden Club to Host Spring Flower Show

The Moravia Garden Club meets at Mary Ann Sloan’s home with 18 members present. The Spring Flower Show is slated for May 26 at the Methodist church with exhibitor entries accepted 7:30 to 10 a.m. A book review and floral displays were featured, and members prepared May baskets for Moravia. The May 23 meeting will be at Grace Veach’s home.

Orville Burton dies after heart attack in Osceola

Orville A. Burton aged 61 died from a heart attack suffered in Osceola on April 23 and died at Clarke County Hospital early April 30. He was born September 18, 1894, married Frances Neff in 1921, and left a wife and three children Margaret Juni and Charles. Funeral services were held at Grace Methodist Church with Masonic rites at Hillcrest Cemetery.
