Moravia Piano Students Win Guild Honors in Des Moines
Fifteen Moravia pupils auditioned Saturday in Des Moines under the National Guild of Piano Teachers. Vattessa Long earned the highest award with an International membership pin after passing a test of 15 memorized pieces at 95 percent. Diana Kelley and Linda Wilson attained state membership by seven memorized pieces, while Paula Hopkins, Peggy Pettibone, and Lonna Bolin earned district pins for four pieces. Several others gained local membership with three pieces, and some passed a social music test. Judge Ethelyn L. Stinson of Philadelphia praised the group as excellent to superior, noting their knowledge of fundamentals, good manners, and fine attitude. The Moravia group was accompanied by their teacher Mrs. Ernest West and several parents and friends.

Arbor Day Observed at Moravia High School
Arbor Day was observed at the Moravia high school with classes dismissed at 10 am for a short period. Kevin Daniels explained the day’s meaning as each class presented a maple or hickory tree to Mr. Guthrey to be planted on school grounds. The Moravia Garden Club donated a sycamore tree to be planted, and the FFA boys carried out the planting. The Garden Club hopes more people plant trees this year.
