The piece notes spring was officially ushered in on Tuesday, celebrating the youngest printer's devil at the Union office, though the day brought a wet blanket of snow. It promises spring flowers and grasses a refreshing drink for April sunshine.
The town plans two new residences this summer while more rural homes are expected. Snow hit early Saturday, delaying travel as ignition systems drowned by windrows. State highway crews were blamed for slow removal, with motorists stranded in ditches on routes near Monroe county.
From Albia and between Moravia and Albia, signs appeared where motoriats became stranded in several places.
Governor candidate Lester Gillette of Fostoria announces his bid for the Democratic nomination for governor at the June 5 primaries. A farmer educator and longtime lawmaker born in 1892, he is Iowa’s only Democrat elected to the State Senate from the old 47th District and has chaired education and agricultural measures. He vows to campaign vigorously, visiting communities to present farm labor and education issues.
The Moravia community records 143 votes cast in the March 16, 1905 school election, one of the largest ever. Candidates include F. A. Reich, W. G. Firkina, Austin Jay, L. O. Main for director and B. Sharp, M. P. Main for treasurer, with varied tallies noted. Additional items cover local ads, barn construction, railway timetables, professional notices, a spelling contest winner, and rural life notes.
A group of Chariton ladies gathered at Mrs. Bert McKern’s home Monday for a window treatment lesson led by Mrs. Ray Harrison and Mrs. McKern. Attendees included Mrs. Lyndon McDanel Miss Darlene Gladfelder Mrs. Henry Rosencrants Mrs. Shirley Townsend Mrs. Pearlie Boyer Mrs. Henry Cordes Mrs. Gus Tisue Mrs. Harley Tisue and the hostess. Refreshments of cake heavenly hash tea and coffee were served.
Residents report March blizzard conditions through Saturday and Sunday while Emma Tadlock fights pneumonia with care from Dr. Larson. Numerous visitors stop by Millers and Tadlocks throughout the week, with updates on Dave Caylor and local school affairs including Joe Tadlock’s election as district 4 director.
The Franklin Farmers club met March 20 at Rex Hagerman home with roll call and two new members Phyllis and Maxine White. Robert Potts spoke on roundworms and Mr Reid spoke on the history of 4-H. Clair Potts and Lester White attended as teacher and assistant leader. A motion was made to raise five dollars for a program.
