Raya Ramblin voices contrast between Moravia school board harmony and Des Moines city council turmoil. He laments metropolitan bickering and predicts industry may move south, urging regional fire departments to offer help and reassurance to relocate residents.
The Moravia school board met Monday with a full agenda. Minutes, bills, financial reports, and teacher salary discussions filled the session. Superintendent Fenton presented next year’s calendar and transportation summary, while hiring and salary schedules were set.
The Urbana Doors 4 H club met at Carol Crist's home at 8 00. Ten members answered roll call for What I Plan to Make and ten visitors attended. Leader Mrs Burdette Ward reported on the leaders training school and handed out leaflets. A gift was presented to Mrs DeWayne Sinclair. Demonstrations covered Patching by Eloise Leffler and Mary Proctor Removin g Grease Stains by Marilyn Eaves Sewing on Buttons by Nancy Carol Faber How to Gather by Virginia Strong Linda Ward gave an illustrated talk on How to ensure for a Pattern. Refreshments of codon and cookies were served by the hostess and her mother.
The Franklin Happy Helpers 4-H club met March 12 1956 at Joann Moore home. Ten members answered a roll call on A Posture Habit I Need to Improve. Connie McAninch and Janet Nash demonstrated an Egg Shampoo. Songs followed the adjournment and refreshments were served by Joann and her mother to listed members and leaders Dorothy Potts and Dick Brown.
About one hundred Monroe County 4-H girls hosted and entertained their leaders during National 4-H Club Week at Kendall Place Albia. Martha McCord presided as president with county officers as hosts. Mary Jo Sinnott sang Irish songs, Carol Swartz played accordion, and slides from Europe were shown. Mrs. Dave McGrath reported on the 4-H Leaders Recognition Day in Ames.
Orange Little Stem Nemagold and Goldrush performed well in sweet potato tests at the Towa Agricultural Experiment Station last year and are recommended for planting in Iowa.
Mrs A B Spring and the Udell family return from a month in California. The Missionary Society of the Brethren church met at Minnie Replogle's home with eight members and a guest. Lionel Spring family plan to settle in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Reverent Albright to attend Kansas funeral. Seventy five gather for a farewell dinner for Gone Spring at the school.
Mrs Dewey Houser hosted Albli Sat chday guests including the Harry Morgans and the Archies Longmat of Marshalltown along with Mrs John Grindle of Centerville. Daytime callers included Lionel Spring Doyle and Dartenée and Merle Houser's family, with Mrs Lloyd Selix and sons.
