Maple Grove region residents report several illnesses including flu for Alea Main and Mrs. Helen Tadlock, with many visits to Ottumwa and Moravia. Neighbors assisted with moves, hospital visits, and chores while roads remained bad. The Willing Workers club was postponed due to sickness, and multiple locals helped or visited family homes across the week.
Brompton Ernest and Frederick Horn of Brooklyn and Ralph Horn of Traer Iowa spent the weekend at the Chas Horn home. Mrs Edna Horn and son visited the John Fisher home Sunday. Homer King and family spent Friday at the M E Boardman home. Jake DeLong and Mrs Chas DeLong visited the Elwood Stafford home. Stafford family have had the flu. Russell Darby W F and E Beardman and daughters dined Sunday at the W C Bivin home. Otis and Payl Stafford spent Monday night and Tuesday with their father A C Stafford in Des Moines. Mr and Mrs Ed Robinson and children spent Saturday evening at the M E Boardman home.
Mr Pleasant Clyde Huff has gone to Wyoming. Mr and Mrs Harry Robinson and children attended the funeral of Mrs Sheaffer at Walnut City Sunday. The John Sharp family are moving to the property vacated by the Otha Taylor family. Ed Points, working for Ive Blackwell, spent Sunday with home folks. C A Woodcock of Des Moines spent Saturday at C C Smiths. C C Smith was in Albia Saturday. Gabe Johnson sawed wood for Otha Taylor Tuesday afternoon. Arch Herron was a Moravia caller Wednesday morning. Mr and Mrs Charles Foster and Iona of Rose Hill spent Sunday at W A Browns. Mr and Mrs Harold Clark and daughter of New Sharon spent Sunday at Harry Robinsons. Mr and Mrs Howard Hesco and daughter and Mr and Mrs W A Brown were Albia callers Monday. Flu epidemic affects attendance at the Hand club and school. The ladies quilted and the men cut wood for Curtis on Loren Thompson place. Nine of ten pupils had the fly this week. only five in school today. Joanne, daughter of Mr and Mrs Gideon, quite ill. L B VanDorin and family were Sunday callers at R S Robers. Mr and Mrs Kenneth Free and son and Mrs J L Jones dined with W T VanDorin and Mrs Clester Friday. E G Hawk called a veterinarian Sunday to see a sick horse and he predicted lockjaw from an insect. New Hope club met at the Donavan home for a dish towel embroidery session and rug rag sewing. Guests included Mrs Grace Dooley from Albia and Harvey Hiatt of Oneida Illinois. The Burns family received a bed spread from the club as they move to near Munterville Indiana.
