Tractor Hit By Truck On Snowy Highway 60

Argo tractor driven by Guy Argo was severely damaged when a truck slides on packed snow near Moravia Missouri and crashes into the tractor. Argo jumped clear as the tractor buckled under the impact. the engine survived but the rear framework was shattered. Insurance coverage is unclear.

Moravia students judge hogs and cattle in educational contests

Friday Moravia vocational ag students judged market hogs at Morrells in two classes of four with Duroc and Hampshire breeds. Professor Quaife of Iowa State College and secretary of the Iowa Hamp Shire Breeders Association presented placings. Winners receive a picnic ham. The event is open to 4 H and F F A market hogs and litter entries, with future plans for more F F A participation. Tractor Maintenance Session At Bivin And Robb

A tractor and farm implement maintenance school was held at the Bivin and Robb Implement Company on Wednesday evening February 27 for 4 H youth about the community. John McCaughey extension director of Centerville gave pointer of the instruction and conducted discussion on tractor maintenance. Lowell McElderry mechanic at Company explained important points in tractor maintenance and showed attendees ways to make their farm equipment last longer and operate more satisfactorily. Following the instructional period William Bivin and Ira Robb served refreshments.

Conservation Commission Approves Duck Marsh Plan

The State Conservation Commission approves a duck marsh on the Charito River southwest of Moravia funded by duck stamps and excise tax, with 75 percent from Pittman Robertson funds and 25 percent from state sources. A public hearing is set for April 1 at Centerville courthouse to present land use details and reimbursements to farmers.

World Day of Prayer Observed at Church of Christ

Four churches joined for the World Day of Prayer service at the Church of Christ on Friday afternoon. Mrs. Birie Main led the program with theme Christ Our Hope, piano by Mrs. Carl Black, and a playlet Mother Liberty's Children. Participants included Mrs. D. E. Bishop, Mrs. George Firkins, Mrs. Carson Jordan, Harley Woodward, Mrs. Ray Lockman, Clara Irelan, Mrs. Almont Main, Eleanor Miller, and Mrs. Frank Woodward who sang four solos. An offering of 22.63 was raised for missions at home and abroad amid substitutions due to illness and other hindrances.

Garden Club Meets at Smith Home Moravia Club Meeting

The Moravia Garden club met Wednesday afternoon with president Mrs Howard Smith for the February session attended by 25. Roll call referenced Spring preparations. Mrs T R Gardner presented a seed catalogue research note. Mrs Art Fox spoke on a timely article and Mrs Ernest Wegt gave a Patriotism feature. An item from a newsletter stated 15 280 trees and shrubs were planted in Iowa last year. New yearbooks were distributed by the book committee and officers were elected to form a junior club. Refreshments followed the social hour.

Snow Closes Rural Roads Delays Hit School Buses

About a foot of heavy snow and high winds on Monday nearly shut rural roads. Buses struggled home Monday night and did not run Tuesday, but most routes resumed Wednesday. Rural mail carriers faced route difficulties with all mail delivered Tuesday except a few boxes on route two. Substitute carrier Max McDonough got his jeep stuck in a ditch on Wednesday but the route was finished later that day.

The February Taylorettes meeting was held February 27 at Sandra Hiatt's home. Plans for the March 18 box supper were discussed and postponed. Members created portfolios and welcomed Madge Lee as a new member. Refreshments included fruit salad cookies and a cold drink.

McCrory Completes Marine Basic Training June Homecoming

Pvt Richard McCrory recently completed basic training with the Marines and is expected this weekend from San Diego to spend a ten day furlough with his wife and son at Oakdale. He will not visit his parents during the leave.
