Moravia High School Greyhounds claim the Wabonsie Conference title as champions. Moravia finished strong in conference play and heads to the Centerville state sectional tournament with a solid chance in Class A. Local fans expect a competitive run with Moravia facing Allerton, Centerville, and others in the early rounds.
Austin Jay learned his sister Mary E. Asbury died Monday in Ottumwa at age 91. Burial will be in Ottumwa.
Moravia High School closed its basketball season by splitting a doubleheader with Cincinnati here last Friday. The Cincinnati girls, one of the strongest in the section, defeated Moravia 28 to 6, while Moravia boys remained undefeated in the Wa bonita conference by beating Cincinnati boys 21 to 22. McCrory led Moravia with 40 points as guards guarded tightly and action stayed rough, with the girls also fighting stubbornly but limited in scoring.
Leo Rex Sytama aged 8 died at an Ottumwa hospital after an operation for mastoid trouble. He was born near Iconium July 23, 1924 and died February 12, 1933. Survived by parents Herman and Sylvia Sytama and sister Irene with grandparents and a great grandmother. Funeral services held at Iconium M E church with interment in Iconium cemetery.

The American Legion Auxiliary sponsored an Americanism program at the local high school assembly on Washington's Birthday. Rev Zerbe announced the event and introduced speaker Attorney A C Pabst of Albia. Pabst gave a talk on George Washington with comparisons to today, followed by vocal and piano selections by Lois Castles and Margaret Miller of Albia.
The Methodist and United Brethren churches of Moravia host the World Day of Prayer service at the United Brethren church Friday starting 2 30 p m. The program includes organ prelude prayers readings doxology silent meditation duets solos and intercession for church leaders nation and international relations with offerings and benediction.
The Sytska Miller and Sytama families express sincere thanks for deeds of kindness, floral tributes, and expressions of sympathy during their recent sorrows.
The M E Friday dinner offers chicken pies mashed potatoes gravy noodles dressing creamed peas bean salad corn and more to raise funds for the Primary Department song books. Local girls trailed until late in the third quarter as Cincinnati led 28 to 5 after the second half.
William Wesley Lundy a 61 year old visitor from Lacey Iowa was fatally injured Tuesday February 21 at Ed Rumley farm two and a half miles north of Udell when his overcoat caught in a belt driven saw mechanism. He died at five that evening after four hours of medical effort. Funeral services were at Salem church with Rev Luther Childs.
C A Jones reports two loads of livestock shipped to St Louis last week by the Co-Operative Marketing Association.
Bishop A B Stratton of the South will guest speak at the United Brethren church next Sunday. He will preach in the morning and give an evening address on Africa travels. A Rev G E MacCanon of Albia and Rev Bainbridge of Centerville lead afternoon events. public invited.
Dr. H. E. Kastning, osteopathic physician, plans to open an office in Moravia. Temporarily the office will be at the EB L Main home on Wabash avenue. He previously practiced at Knox City Missouri and has been associated with the Kirksville hospital recently.
Reports indicate clover seed was stolen from the M. 8 Foster farm Monday night. Sheriff Wales was alerted on Tuesday morning and is investigating the case. Members of the Minnes and Horner/Watts families are visiting friends in Newton today.

Moravia High School declamatory team claimed two firsts and a second at the state preliminary contest held Tuesday night in the Moravia auditorium. John Johnson won oratory, Maxine Tucker topped both dramatic and high score, Arlene Dodd placed second in humorous. Exline and Unionville students also placed, with Elfreida Johnson disqualified for over time. Winners advance to the state second round. venue and date TBD.
The Geo. Cousins home in Moravia was completely destroyed by fire around midnight Monday. Most household goods were removed from the burning building as investigators determine the cause. Mr and Mrs Cousins had been living at the Rouge farm where he worked in timber and planned to move back to town Tuesday.
