Moravia area residents report four to five inches of rain on Saturday morning while families gathered for Father’s Day and farewell visits. Multiple relatives and travelers arrive from Minnesota Iowa Illinois and Washington for visits and reunions with local families including Hiatt Gillaspie Burton and Turner households.
Local residents including Jim and Mrs Davis and daughters, Scott and Johnson families, and Ted Broshar shared visits, meals, and small carpentry work across Maple Grove homes. Several families hosted weekend gatherings with neighbors, including Woodward, Arnold, Dowd, and Pollard households, with ice cream outings and Sunday visits noted.
A field diary recalls April floods and their aftereffects. The writer notes cattle moved to safer pastures, hens perished, and crops damaged while river water receded from basements. Neighboring farms, social visits, and local accounts of harvests and repairs fill the week.
Mrs George Brooké and Allender family attended the funeral for Géorge Hopkins in Unionville. The Tuesday Club met with Mrs Lucille Price for its regular monthly session with four members present. Nearby residents and visiting kin were mentioned as part of a busy period of family events and navy departure plans.

Kinser Valley Ed Johnson aided Zell Wilson on parch work midweek. Darrell Floyd Caster and LeRoy Wilson fished at Brompton Sunday afternoon. Five inches of rain fell Saturday morning flooding bottom ground and washing upland. Bert Mack made a business call Wednesday morning. Jack Campbell and LeRoy Wilson assist with alfalfa. Clifton Boardman now in Australia. Mr and Mrs Rodger Gideon and family visited J C Lockman Sunday. G B Darby stopped by John Robinson and Ivan Hoadley homes Sunday.
The report notes Mr. Pleasant Velda Brown returned home Sunday the 14th for a two week vacation. Homer Brown and family made Albia calls Monday morning. Dortha Kenton visited Moravia on Tuesday afternoon. Eva Daphen Velda and Homer Charles Brown called at Tom McCrory's Tuesday evening and Velda Brown dined with Pearl McCrory. Further visits included Otha Taylor at Mystic, Myrle Clark traveling to Colorado Springs for vacation, and more calls at W A Brown and John W Kenton homes Friday afternoon.
Franklin and nearby communities report visits by Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Hackathorne and baby from Dalles Texas Mrs Ethel Olney of Kansas City Mo and Mr and Mrs Johnny Bickford of Moravia join Hugh McFatridge home Rex Haver and Mrs Roscoe Argo visit Oskaloosa Leona Blackman Humeston Phyllis Dewey Arnold Herbert Arnold Blakesburg and others are noted in cross town calls and family gatherings through a busy weekellus.
