Borrowers face higher borrowing costs while savers see varying income rates as the stock market trends downward. The talk also covered the new truth in lending laws clarifying the exact costs of borrowing.
The text notes high annual interest charges and rising costs slow construction and—perhaps—a recession. A farmer was offered livestock loan at 814 percent but declined. Moravia advances street marking with steel posts set in concrete and signs on order to define the town.

Denice and Ricky spent Thursday at the Wiley Hutchinson home near Lovilla. Mary Mocfatridge visited Sibyl Whitehead Thursday afternoon. Mrs Wayne Christy and daughters Edith Callen and Icel Christy called on Mrs Wayne Thompson in Albia Friday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Truxton Dicks spent Friday in Ottumwa. Denise and Ricky were Friday supper guests at the Richard East lick home. Merle Dicks was a Saturday dinner guest of Beryl Brown. Deanna Russell of Des Moines and Craig Sheldon of Marshalltown spent the weekend at Clayton Sheldon’s home. Merle Dicks visited the Hart Swift home Saturday evening. Wayne Christy and daughters attended a birthday dinner Sunday at the Fred Christy home in Mystic honoring Pat Christy. Mr and Mrs Dick Dunham Danny and Jennifer and Mr and Mrs Dick Brown and Brad were Fathers Day dinner guests at the Russell Brown home. Truxton Dicks spent Sunday afternoon at Paul Dicks home. Don Clark Cindy Beth and Jeff of Columbus Junction were Sunday supper guests at Clayton Sheldon home. Lee Jackson and Lynn Buell of Euston spent Sunday evening with his daughter and granddaughter Mrs Bernard Walters and family. Bob Metcalfe and Gary Metcalfe David and Paul of Whiting Ind spent Sunday with Merle Dicks. Maxine Sheldon and Jessie MecAninch visited Alle Argo Sunday evening at Albcin McCord Manor. The Iconium United Methodist church Bible School began Mon.
On day June 16th a one week program is underway with Sibyl Whitehead Doris and Elaine Christy Linda Sheldon and Glennie Dicks assisting teaching. Theresa Brown leads the music while Jimmie Sheldon Brad Brown Joyce and Carol Christy participate.
Attendance at Sunday School was 15. Dollie Huff joined Ruby White for a trip to Kirksville Missouri to meet Marge Evans. Numerous neighbors visited, hosted dinners, and hosted guests throughout Griffinsville and nearby homes. Mansel Tarbell injured eye in storm, hospitalized in Iowa City.
Mr and Mrs Merrill Shepard and Stewart with Don McClanahan and family of Centerville took a picnic lunch and visited at the home of Mr and Mrs C B Whitson in Jefferson on Sunday. Wendell Shepard and family of Kirksville spent Sunday with the Lowell Shepard home. Delores Shepard and Mr and Mrs Fred Shepard called Saturday evening. Russell and Lowell Shepard also called on Sunday.
Local notes from New Hope recount weekend visits among Harsh families and friends. Families from St Louis and Carbondale join gatherings in observance of Father’s Day and related events. Carding a week includes 4-H workshop attendance, Bible School program, and farewells at Centerville.
The Monroe Busy Maidens met at Diane Rogers home with seven members, four mothers and two visitors. Marilyn Shelquist demonstrated preparing a raw vegetable plate and correct measuring, Ann Rouse demonstrated dainty rolls, Diane demonstrated Upside Down Cake, and Wanda M. McFarland spoke on table setting. Achievement show day is July 29 with judge Mrs. Alex Nigaut.
The Franklin Happy Helpers held a June 9 gathering at Merla and Camilla Prater's home. Nine members and two leaders attended as old and new business were discussed and plans made for a June 28 ice cream social. Carolyn Cooper demonstrated on pizza.
Ellen Cooper led a display on Centerpieces with a demonstration on Casseroles. Delicious refreshments were enjoyed later.
