Local notes report a printing error swapped winner and sinner in an honor student story leading to concern. Insurance agents log wind and hail claims from last Wednesday in Iconium area with crops damaged and roofs affected. Moravia sees heavy rain slow planting and complicate curing as farmers hay. Town Council begins setting up a clerk’s office in Moravia community.
Remodeling the northwest room will host regular town office hours once finished. Water bills and other business will be handled there and exact hours will be announced next week in Union. Water meters will be read at month end with payments due July 1.
Mrs Lawrence Powell and family visited Omaha and Lincoln Nebraska over weekend. They attended graduation for Vicki String fellow in Omaha Saturday night. Charolotte Powell stayed week with parents in Lincoln. Burkland and Wagner chaperoned Moulton Center event Saturday. Minnie Moffatt visited various locals. calls included Ag nes Burkland. visits to nursing home residents and Centerville acquaintances.
The report notes Laura Hayworth was readmitted to the hospital on Monday evening. Well wishes are extended for a speedy recovery.
Mrs Theo Miller remains a patient at Mercy hospital Des Moines. She was visited by Mr and Mrs Herb Boblenz on Sunday and is improving. Several local families, including the Hiatt and McDanel clans, shared weekend visits and attendances at graduations and Taylor Aid events with Mintia Shoemaker, Nancy Klampe, and others.
Mr and Mrs Guy Argo spent Saturday in Des Moines. Mr and Mrs Ray Barkley of Ottumwa were visitors at the A C Andersons Monday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Ronnie Barker Alan and Mr and Mrs Francis Turner spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Raymond Clark near Mystic. Mr and Mrs Deyo Edwards of Buchner Mo visited Sunday at the A C Anderson home. Mr and Mrs Don Klampe and family attended a family picnic in Des Moines Sunday and toured rose gardens. Mr and Mrs Herb Boblenz visited Sunday night at the Kenneth Bible School continues its second week in Moravia. Mrs Clarence Ballanger and daughter and Mrs Don Klampe and children are attending.
A small tornado struck Griffinsville to Wednesday evening around 5. Rain and hail shattered windows and toppled buildings and antennas. Most farm homes suffered damage. several families reported uprooted trees and structural harm amid ongoing recovery efforts. Church and social notes mention multiple families visiting and hosting gatherings in nearby areas.
Mr and Mrs Harry Nelson spent Wednesday visiting friends. Jim Walker hosted guests at the Glen McNair residence. Gladys and Jianior Townsend enjoyed a Saturday afternoon and evening with Russell Shepard. Junior assisted with building work accompanying the group.
Mrs Nadine Dommer hosts a large family picnic at Greenwood Park in Des Moines on Sunday with Dallas Faber Norma and extended Faber and Klampe families. Harold Locke of Omaha joins, rose gardens explored, and several relatives visit homes and attend minor events around Centerville Ottumwa and Madrid. Barbara Coltrain and Patty Lockman head to Kirksville for a twirler camp, while Janie Ward graduates from Centerville Community College.
A series of social calls and travel plans in Centerville and nearby Ottumwa are recorded. Guests include Mr and Mrs Ray Lockman with the Huber and Proctor families, Kathy Evans and the Burdette Ward group, and Floyd and Yates households. Jay Taylor heads to Vietnam from Des Moines.
