The Tuttle ranch hosts a week of berry activity as 13 pickers worked to harvest 3300 boxes by Wednesday morning with Thursday's picking expected to push past 3500. Conditions remain ideal with ample moisture and mild temperatures. The nearby note recalls Bill Moore surviving a recent plane crash while Father Elbert Moore is mentioned.
A local note reports two Rambling quips being cut for a state radio segment. Bill Moore, recently hospitalized with a knee issue after a cargo plane wreck, says he was not injured though he was at base hospital. Ambitious travel presenter Del Donahoe entertained Moravia with Europe trip photos at a well attended Methodist event, praised for charm and narration.
Peoples National Bank of Albia raises capital from 50000 to 100000 via stock dividend after a May 24 shareholders meeting. The Comptroller of the Currency approved and the increase takes effect June 1. President J. E. King says the move strengthens depositor protection and allows larger loans and better service.

The 52nd annual Rebekah convention for the Fourth district will be held Monday June 13 at the Moravia I O O F hall. State president Lucile Shanda of Elberon and other officers will attend with lodges from Moulton Centerville Cincinnati and Mystic. Albia lodge will present initiatory work and the drill during the evening session with registration at 12 45 and the 1 30 start Moravia lodge to open the session. Afternoon program features Memorial 8 00 opening ceremonies report of committees initiatory degree and address by Lucile Shanda president of the Rebekah Assembly.
The Twentieth Century club held its year end meeting at Mrs Raymond Ashby’s home with a cooperative lunch at noon. Officers were reelected: Mrs Charles Coffin president, Mrs John Dodd vice president, Mrs Emery Hiatt secretary, and Mrs Cody Luse treasurer. Members exchanged mystery gift pals and drew new names for the coming year. Next meeting is the first Tuesday in October. Book committee: Mrs Harry Glick Mrs Ted Campbell Mrs C W Craver and Mrs Preston Hedcock.
Iowa State College extension veterinarian Dr. John B. Herrick reports brucellosis infections in Iowa cattle fell to 4.6 percent in early 1955 from 6.3 percent in early 1954, with calls for county committees to push eradication. He notes Iowa must also eradicate brucellosis in swine, and national herd infection rates have dropped from 5 percent in 1946 to about 2.4 percent in 1955, reflecting large potential savings.
The disease already surpasses all state and federal costs to combat it. Brucellosis affects swine and cattle and poses a health hazard to people who handle infected livestock. It is known as undulant fever when it infects humans.
