Apple Growers Urged to Thin Heavy Crop This Spring
Iowa State College horticulturist S W Edgecombe notes an unusually heavy apple set across western southwestern and central Iowa. He advises thinning soon after the June drop to 6 to 8 inch spacing for larger fruit, reduced culls, lower breakage, and minor yield loss, with peaches and plums also benefiting from specific spacing.
