Next Monday is primary election day. Unionville’s fast kittenball team visits Moravia for the season opener next Tuesday at 8 under floodlights. With insufficient players for a city league, a town team will form. John Laws named manager Bert Turner treasurer. A Moravia return game at Unionville is set for Friday June 10 with more games to follow.
The Moravia high school alumni spring party will be held in the school gymnasium Friday evening June 10. Claude Hawk is president of the alumni association with Harold Hawk as secretary. Committees are arranging an entertaining program starting at 8 o'clock.
Noah Henry Coe 86 died Monday May 30 at his home west of Udell after a long illness. Born March 12 1852 in Marshall County Iowa he moved to Moravia area as a boy later settling four miles west of Udell and running an apiary. Survived by daughters Daisy Stevens Zeola Alverson and three sons Ted Jim Charley. wife Laura Patrick preceded him. Funeral Wednesday at 2 from Turner Funeral Home Moravia with Rev T J Zike officiating. burial Moravia Cemetery.
The Ed Jordan family gathered Sunday for a long awaited reunion with children and many grandchildren. Attendees included Ernest Temple of Napersville Illinois Irene Engle and two children of Oleda Iowa Tom Jordan and family Des Moines Eugene Jordan and family Alpha Iowa Guerney Jorden and family Udell Iowa Coreen Jordan and children Moravia Iowa and Ed Jourdan. MOH Joprion and family drove to Iowa Monday to visit Jehoswis brother Uburkey and family.
Dean Smithburg of Sioux Falls M.D. was elected president of the South Dakota Poultry and Egg association at a meeting in Huron on May 18. He is son of Mr. and Mrs. John Smithburg of Moravia and manages a large produce company in Sioux Falls.
Mr and Mrs Arthur Stanley of Unionville Iowa announce the marriage of their daughter Wiita Marie to Gerald D Ire lan son of Mr and Mrs Will Ire lan of Moravia. The single ring ceremony was at 11 15 on Saturday May 28 in Lancaster Mo with Spencer King and Esther Eller as attendance. Bridesmaids wore navy dresses and red roses formed the bouquet. A six o clock dinner followed at the bride's home then a charivari at the groom's parents home. They will reside at their country home a few miles east of Moravia.
Mr and Mrs J F Chambers hosted Sunday open house on May 30 to greet visitors including Carl W Chambers and son Craig of Pendleton Oregon. Guests listed feature many local families with roses on tea table and lighted candles.
The menu lists breaded tenderloin served with browned new potatoes creamed peas couche cheese lettuce saint hot biscuits and pie with jelly. Cortes appears as part of the menu or caption elements.
Regular monthly election of trash delegates announced for Monday in front of the town hall. Contain ers will be set and ready for waste collection duties under L. B. Hiatt, mayor.
Roy D Adams son of Mr and Mrs B R Adams of Moravia was selected to represent Moravia and the community at Hawkeye Boys State to be held at Camp Dodge Des Moines June 12 to 19. Basil Cowell Post of the American Legion Moravia Community Club sponsor his attendance. Adams will be a Moravia High School senior next fall for outstanding school and community service. He will report back with a written account published in The Union and may speak before local groups.
The Moravia memorial service led by Basil Cowell Post of the American Legion drew many local and visiting attendees. A Moravia school band led a wreath ceremony around veteran flags, with speakers and taps concluding the observance at the Legion Home.
A Aberievil style notice reports Albia Lodge Seventeen Muracia members attended the Odd Yellow Lodge event Friday evening to witness and complete second degree work conducted by Kavsville team Kam.
The program features Seitz The Tron Count Overture King March selections plus popular pieces including Fall In Love With You Every Day sung by Grace Argo and Good night Angel performed by Josephine McDonald. Richard Summers leads Summerhill and Shadwell with Richards title pieces. Virginia Argo and Margaret Burton perform Love Walked In and a baritone solo respectively.
On Thursday June ninth the Vosburgh school hosts its annual homecoming with a picnic at noon managed by Stella Argo Nellie Turner and Maude Turner. An afternoon program directed by Olive Miller Gertrude Shehan and Clara Brown precedes 1939 officer elections. Roy Miller Russell Brown and Allie Derby handle tables and grounds with officers including Archie Thompson president Glen Turner vice president Mrs H B Gilliland secretary and Nellie Turner treasurer.
Jack McDonough son of Rollie and Mrs McDonough becomes proprietor of Morgan Service Station in Moravia after taking possession Sunday. He will sell Texaco gasoline oils and greases and stock a small groceries while inviting local patronage. He is noted as the youngest Moravia merchant.
Rev T J Zike pastor of Moravia United Brethren Church leaves on a vacation trip to Spokane Washington with his son Tom and daughter Virginia and his parents Rev and Mrs S M Zike. He will visit his daughter Mrs Theron B Maxon and Miss Audrey Zike and return in about a month. Mrs Zike will lead services during his absence.
Mrs. Léonard Patnier, chair of the Moravia Auxiliary Poppy sales committee, reports a splendid response from the community. The Moravia Unit’s poppy quota was sald in quickly Saturday.

Moravia churches cooperate Thursday night to present the Anti Saloon League drama Death Takes the Steering Wheel on the United Brethren church stage at eight. Twenty one locals participate and Rev G C McCaw, visiting league representative, will act. No admission. offering received.
An Iowa Showers school homecoming on May 28 drew former teachers and pupils for a reunion at the schoolhouse. Anna Ullem led greetings and reminiscences while Bessie Boshak was elected president with officers named Atta Main and Basha Foster. The event recalled the old log schoolhouse, maple shade trees, and generations of Showers attendees.
Next Monday June 6 marks Iowa primary elections as parties name candidates for November. In Taylor township polls from 8 am to 8 pm at Moravia Community Building. Senate race heats in the Fifth District with Appanoose Monroe counties among participants. Many county offices lack opposition though some races are vigorous. All candidates urge voters to get out the vote.
Forest Wakefield is in the graduating class at Iowa State Teachers College and earned a Bachelor of Science at commencement in Cedar Falls. He will return to teach in Tipton schools after a one year leave. Mrs Wakefield and Mr and Mrs P D Schreiner drove to Waterloo on Monday to attend the exercises.
A closing program and picnic mark the end of the Daily Vacation Bible School at United Brethren Church. Sunday night program includes flag salute, prayers, memory verses, songs, stories, and lessons from the Bible with named participants and groups. A free will offering will cover school expenses.
The More Co-Operative Marketing Association shipped a mixed car of hogs and cattle to the St Louis market on Wednesday. The shipment reflects cooperative efforts to move livestock efficiently to major outlets.
