The Monroe 4 H fair opens Sunday and runs through midweek as demonstration teams sew and animals are prepared for show. Centerville schedules its fair for next Thursday while the fall festival spans September 10 to 12. Blakesburg and Moulton celebrations overlap the same dates, making one busy week for area communities.
This week large equipment began arriving for the dial service conversion and is expected to arrive by early next week. Wells drilled for town water show better prospects than anticipated, with expert drillers reporting strong supply potential. An 8 DuPont tape promises home movie revolution by recording picture and sound on one tape, playable on standard TVs, with color development in progress.
New Hope social notes record Gladys Harsh calling on Genevie and Dorothy Donovan Tuesday afternoon. Visitors at Jay Wilson’s home last week included Bill and George Wilson families, Stevie Rogers, Ivan Harsh, Hazel Wilson, Tom, R. C. Wilson, Bill Long, Leta Marie Kenny, Richard Harsh, and John Bradshaw from Washington DC. George Turner hosted friends Thursday afternoon including Darrel Tarbel Alan and Linda Wilson Marie and Kenny Long. Stevie plans to leave soon for Loveland Colorado. Eva Hiatt and Lynda Wood visited Genevie and Dorothy Donovan Thursday.
A flurry of social gatherings fills Thursday to Sunday as Loyd and Rollie Carters host at Moulton while Jay Wilson hosts a supper honoring Richard Harsh. Numerous households visit, dine, and call on relatives in a busy sequence, including trips to Davenport and Iowa City and weekend stays with the Long, Donovan, Pettibone, and Main families.
Iowans aiming for the 214000 prize pool at the Iowa State Fair must file by August 1 for major livestock events and horse cattle swine and sheep entries. Farm exhibits and the Iowa art salon close that date with other deadlines in textiles photography culinary agriculture and related classes.
Results of the annual ASC community elections conducted by mail from June 25 through July 7 were announced by the Appanooge County ASC office. A total of 582 ballots were cast, 94 fewer than last year. Newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen will serve as delegates to the county ASC convention on July 25 at the Appanoose County ASC office in Center Ville. The one year term of all new county and community committeemen starts August 1. A complete list of the newly elected committeemen follows, including names such as Fulmer, Broshar, Kauzlarich, Hamilton, Smith, Jones, Wells, Wakefield, Zintz, and others.
Members and families gathered at Moravia Park on Sunday July 12 for a picnic dinner then the annual 4-H meeting led by president Donald West. Madrid 4-H Camp set for July 22 23 and 24 with Jim Argo and Ralph McDonough attending. closing pledge to the flag. and a visit to a boy’s home to see their protests. Participants included David West Donald West Jim Argo Max Argo Ted McDonough and Jerry Boblenz.
The Shanghai club met at Barbara Allen's home on July 28 with a cooperative noon meal. Members sewed Tug tags, picked nut meats, and Cora Murphy won the guessing game. Attendees included Allie Taylor, Hazel Rinehart, Lorraine Rinehart, Mike, Jimmy, Christy family, Doris N, Barbara Allen, Patty, Wayne, Doris Elaine, Joyce, Carol Christy, Mark, and David Allen. The next meeting is set for August 12 with Dorothy Calhoun.
